I read The Killing Joke during the week for the first time after reading about it in this thread. I think the flashbacks would translate well for The Dark Knight, but the 'real time' story would have to be changed for the film to work on the big screen.
Two other points. Firstly, what do you guys think the chances are of another Bat-vehicle being included in this film? I realise they are a bit gimmicky, but BB pulled off the Batcar being super-cool while keeping the realism there. Could they do the same thing with, say, the Batwing?
Secondly, I am listening to Elfman's original Batman score right now, and it occurs to me just how much BB sorely missed Elfman's main theme. That theme just is Batman. I highly doubt it'll be included in The Dark Knight, but it'd be nice.

Scores are to identifiable to certain films, they changed virtually everything in BB, compared to Batman's previous set of movies. I think changing the music was a good idea.
While I'd love to see a Killing Joke movie, I don't think it'd could be plausibly done in this series of films. Unless, they do something like each film representing a decade of Batman's career(which would be an interesting idea, as it would make an adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns, more plausible. Maybe even open up the possible of a Batman Beyond film).
I'd rather not see any more vehicles, they really haven't had any place in the comics in the last several decades. That's one of the things, I dispise about the previous series of movies, Tim Burton trying to combine the current Batman(at the time) with the campiness of the 60's tv show and comics, which Schumaker totally pushed even further to the extreme.

I disagree about the need to change the score. They didn't change *everything*: the setting and characters are all the same, albeit developed differently. While something like the score isn't indispensible to the greater Batman franchise, I would argue that Elfman's theme, at least, is one of the most indentifiable film themes in history and could be argued to be indispensible to the Batman films, if not the greater franchise. It's just that the Newton-Howard/Zimmer score was so forgettable, wheras the Elfman theme is iconic AND fits the tone of the film like a glove.

So, why wasn't it in Batman Forever, or Batman and Robin?

I was just reading The Long Halloween a couple weeks ago, and I have to say, on a suggestion that Leonard_Shelby made in YJCC, I also think that Guy Pearce would be great as Harvey Dent. And that I would love to see a storyline for him similar to his in Long Halloween. I think it would be a great contribution to the obligatory 'downer ending' of this second film to have Two Face's birth included.

I literally just finished reading Long Halloween (easily the best Batman storyline I've read, and I've read most of the famous ones) for the second time on my break at work today. I think Liev Schreiber looks identical to Harvey Dent in that. Still, Josh Lucas is perfect--pretty but masculine. One of the things that pushes him over the edge is his vanity. Lucas would work well for that. Then again, pretty much all of the casting suggestions for Dent (minus Phillipe) have been good. I think Matt Dillon would be great.

The thing is that you also have to consider how these actors would be as Two Face. And that's one of the reasons I like Guy Pearce for it. That, plus his extremely positive history with the Nolan brothers.
I don't think looking like the characters in the comics is all that important. I mean, Christian Bale doesn't look just like any incarnation of Bruce Wayne. But that's fine.

Oh, believe me, I'm considering the actors as Two Face as well. Which is why there's no way I want Phillipe in the part. Josh Lucas would be great. Liev Schreiber would be great. Guy Pearce would be great (I heard him and Christopher Nolan had a falling out). Jake Gyllenhaal would be good. I even like Joaquin Pheonix, but he's a little short.
