I've been listening to the soundtrack. Very different from the first one, but very, very good.

All the actors and experts are saying that Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker is an academy award winning performance. They all seem to say the late actor should be given an award for this role.
Has there ever been an actor who ever won an oscar for their role as a superhero or villian? I can't think of any. If Heath's performance is that good, this movie is going to rock!

I couldn't stand waiting another week, so I've been watching some of the spoiler videos that have popped up on youtube and the scene with the Joker crashing the party is fantastic. I would hope that Ledger is at least nominated, it would be quite a surprise if he won.
I can't wait to see this in IMAX next week.

Most of the midnight showings are sold out that some theaters are putting on 3 AM and 6 AM showings. This movie is going to be massive! This movie is going to break all record. They are predicting $140 million on opening weekend alone, but that figure is now looking to be on the low side. I think it will easy beat Spidey 3 for biggest opening weekend which is currently at $151 million.

I think it may be that big, or bigger. The buildup for this film has been incredible. And it would have been a huge film anyway, but the unusual element of the actor playing the villain dying before the film was released adds a new angle.
I think it will be the biggest film of 2008. I'm a huge fan of Ironman and Indiana Jones, but nothing's gonna top Batman this year.

Dark Knight is gonna be SO AWESOME!!!
Martin Scorsese's The Departed. Michael Mann's Heat. Brian de Palma's The Untouchables. And now, Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight can join the ranks as one of the best crime dramas in modern movie history." --Staci Layne Wilson
"Daring and uncompromisingly different from previous incarnations of Batman, Nolan hasn't redefined the superhero genre as much as created an unforgettable piece of crime fiction within the context of that realm." --Edward Douglas
"A dark, ambitious, mature and gritty crime saga the likes of which Michael Mann or Martin Scorsese would be proud to call their own." --Garth Franklin
"The Dark Knight is not only the best film I have seen this year, but quite possibly the best superhero movie ever made." -- Brad Miska
"An ambitious, full-bodied crime epic of gratifying scope and moral complexity, this is seriously brainy pop entertainment that satisfies every expectation raised by its hit predecessor and then some." -- Justin Chang
"Nolan's sequel surpasses the original with an intense, disturbing masterpiece." -- Todd Gilchrist
"Dark, grim, haunting and inventive, Dark Knight is nothing short of brilliant, representing Chris Nolan's most accomplished and mature work to date and the best and scariest comic-hero adaptation you're likely to see this summer, perhaps the whole year." -- Emanuel Levy
"The film is quite special but where some films can weather extraneous or padded scenes, The Dark Knight has some distracting bloat to it which keeps it out of masterpiece territory." -- Nick Nunziata
Pure adrenaline. [Nolan], having dispensed with his introspective, moody origin story, now puts the Caped Crusader through a decathlon of explosions, vehicle flips, hand-to-hand combat, midair rescues and pulse-pounding suspense. - Kirk Honeycutt
An epic that will leave you staggering from the theater, stunned by its scope and complexity. - Christy Lemire
the Joker. As played by the late Heath Ledger, with tangled greasy hair, grotesque white makeup, darting mad eyes and an obscene tongue that keeps licking his slashed, painted-on smile...It's a stupendously creepy performance, wild but never over the top. He cuts a figure so dangerous that you wonder if Batman is up to the task-or if our hero himself will have to become as ruthless as his foe. - David Ansen
The Dark Knight is bound to haunt you long after you've told yourself, Aah, it's only a comic-book movie. - Richard Corliss
The haunting and visionary Dark Knight soars on the wings of untamed imagination. - Peter Travers

I'm not drinkin' the Kool Aid until I actually see the film.
You know who film critics write reviews for? Each other.
I'm not saying it's not a masterpiece, but I'm definitely saying I don't trust film critics. I've seen them lavish praise on junk and I've seen them attack great films.
I want it to be a truly great film and I'm really looking forward to seeing it.
But critics on occasions like these have a herd mentality and I don't trust it.
What do I mean by "occasions like these"? Well, you know.

I expect it to be good. I don't think it will be one of my favourite films, but I think it will at least be interesting and intelligent. I thought Batman Begins was very good in terms of performances and atmosphere, but I did not think it was perfect as I often felt kind of detatched from the drama. I expect my reaction to TDK to be similar, though this looks to be the superior film. One thing is for sure, Nolan & co are really trying to create the best movie they can, with no obvious attempts to dumb it down for a wider audience.
