I love the bell tower. The stripes need to go, though.

Architect: Donato Brumante

Completed: 1502

Location: Rome, Italy

Style/Period: Italian High Renaissance

This exquisite small building marks the spot on which St. Paul was crucified. Supposedly inspired by the Temple of Vesta.

A definite link between ancient Roman and the Renaissance.

Architect: Reginald Ely and John Wastell

Style/Period: Gothic

Commissioned in 1441 by King Henry VI. Building was sporadic due to the Wars of the Roses, but work recommenced under Henry VII, and was completed by Henry VIII. Contains the world's largest fan vault.

This is Late Gothic or Early Perpendicular; the best English Gothic I've seen.

Architect: Unknown

Completed: 1530

Location: Hampton, Surrey, England

Style/Period: Tudor

Begun by Cardinal Thomas Wolsey (also at that time Lord Chancellor of England) in 1515. Already a grand country house, Wolsey transformed it into a palace, with a series of Italian Renaissance flourishes. In 1528, however, Wolsey fell from power over Henry's divorce, and Hampton became a royal palace. It was later renovated by Christopher Wren.

Loved this place, the Choir (I think that's what they call the area with the Knight's seats) is fantastic.

Edit: I was talking about St George's Chapel- missed out on Hampton Court when I was in England. sad

So called because it is believed to be a copy of Pontius Pilates' home in Jerusalem. A combination of Mudejar (the dome, plasterwork & tiling), Gothic (the bannisters) & Renaissance styles.

The outside, especially the interior courtyard, with the bleak landscaping and those ugly stairs, is underwhelming. The size seems unnecessary, too.
