I'm quite sure I am not the only guitarist around this place..so I wanna see how many of you play guitars too.

tell us how long you've been playing, what you prefer to play, your preferred choice of guitar, or if you play bass-tell how many strings (4or5)

I have no idea how long I've played my guitar....
I prefer rock over other stuff
Fenders and Gibson are my top choices for guitars (love to SG and Les Pauls) I mostly play Strats.
I can play bass, but not very good.

how about you?

I've been playing bass for about 4 months now. I have a 4 string Peavey Millenium and a 20 watt amp.

I've been told I'm fairly talented and I'm going to start playing during church worship as soon as I make it to a couple practices.

I might learn guitar soon. We'll see how things go.

I'm OK. I just started, but I practice a lot and I really enjoy it. I'm learning some Five Iron Frenzy. Lots of fun.

I've been playing for 11 years, and am currently in two bands. I play rhythm mainly, though I can do lead. My setup is currently a PRS Tremonti SE (Gibson Les Paul Standard with the scratchboard taken off, repainted and given the PRS logo. It's a Gibson tongue But Gibson sued PRS and they aren't available anymore tongue ) Before that I suffered with Ibanez Strat ripoffs and Epiphone LP Custom ripoffs. My amp is a Line 6 Spider II 30 (Bog standard Metal guitarist fare tongue ), and I have a Zoom 606 Pedal, which is pretty good, I suppose tongue

I can play bass, have done for about 5 years now, though I generally prefer my guitars tongue

As for what I play: mostly my own stuff nowadays. Due to my main band consisting of only two people (Myself and another guitarist: blends the styles a bit. I play the drums, keyboards and do vocals too) I don't play live, and my second band is pretty new fangled, so I haven't played live with them either yet. As for what my stuff is... Metal, mainly, usually Black or Death, mixed with Progressive, Power and Battle Metal bits. I also enjoy ripping off classical songs (So far my main band has done Rule Britannia [Arne], In the Hall of the Mountain King [Grieg] and Für Elise [Beethoven]).

As for how good I am: Well, speed wise I can shred upwards of 720bpm on a single string, and I can tap about 500bpm. However, my technical ability whilst going at such speeds is somewhat diminished, so I tend to stray away from key signatures that are used in the Western Music traditions. Chords I know most of, and I can read tab and sheet music (though I have to really concentrate to play sheet music straight onto guitar).

No idea what else I can say.

cool...which reminds me....

I'm with a band. Werewolves of London. We stick with rock.
I'm lead and vocals
my best friend is backup guitar
my other friend is keyboards
the guy I mentioned above is bassist-he's good for a freak.
and teh drummer is mental too-but hey, what do I care? he's a great drummer!

I prefer Behringer and Vox amplifications-but if I'm short of either of those, my playing will do the talking for me. thing is...I can't play with a pick below heavy-otherwise it lies in pieces.

sooo...anybody else?!

Heh, I don't play with a pick at all. Or a whammy bar. I have one long nail and I shred faster than people can with a pick tongue

dude...I like the way I play...so...I'll just keep it that way...

have you ever played in front of a bunch of people? It is so easy to amuse people with guitars...spins em around or make one scream...and the people act like they're gonna have a heartattack!
or at least that's the reaction I get! soo weird!

I have played live a few times. Though rarely. Usually I just piss people off with uber feedback though grin

I'm primarily a bass player. I taught myself to play and read music for it with a combination of listening to the RHCP and jamming with my local big-band. After a year of playing for myself, I had lessons with one of Australia's most reputable bass players (the members of INXS used to go round to his house to compose) and got a distinction in the highest exam you can do for bass in Australia. I play an Ibanez active four-string.

I do like guitar as well, though. I bought my first electric last year, it's just a crappy adequate instrument, but hey, I'm not made of money. Until then I've used an ancient, but beautiful sounding steel-string acoustic, and a beautiful, beautiful Maton 12 string guitar which I recieved as a present. I usually use the 12-string in an open C tuning. This year I bought a very nice nylon string guitar which I use for latin and jazz.
