The2ndQuest posted: Are you talking about the one during the Monarch's college years? Can't be the same- that one was during the day (and clearly shown to be the Monarch's work to kill Venture), while the Phantom explosion was at night.
Yup, now that you mention it, you're right -- popped that disc in, and it is daytime during that scene. The finer details were sort of fuzzy in my memory. The explosion in "Shadowman 9" was the one that blew off Baron Ünderbheit's jaw, and was orchestrated by the Monarch.
I think that State University just has a higher-than-normal rate of superscience explosions.
Jesus, now I just feel really bad for Quizboy. He seems to have spent the past 20+ years being **** on by everyone he's ever had contact with. And he's still a virgin.
Though with all due respect, who would seriously want to **** that?

Fantastic episode. Brock wanting to watch the special about the Giant Crossbow was great.
I'm surprised they never showed the "E" and the "D" on Hatred's torso-tattoos. Loved the reveal of "ATR" in the hot tub, though. Rusty's black-box shrinkage was genius, too. I love how there was a throwaway line of dialogue about how the Murderous Moppets are planning to kill The Monarch and Dr. Mrs. The Monarch. Also, the Mariah Carey joke was aces.
Hatred was just hysterical; he may be funnier then The Monarch. They could do a whole spinoff with The Monarch and Sgt. Hatred as neighbors.
Also, they have so many characters (and they're constantly introducing new ones) I feel as if the mythology can continue to develop more slowly, while getting huge payoffs now. I don't find it detracting on the humor, I just think it strengthens the characters, which always makes the situations they're in funnier. Though I'd hate for the mythology to eclipse the humor.

"Watching this documentary on this giant crossbow."
"Why're you doing that?"
"Looked cool."
Also, the whole rubber bullet bit was hilarious.
"Oh, and-"
BAM!
Brock: "HEY!"
"Oh, they don;'t usually break the skin like that. (into walkie) Guys, we have a bleeder here, axe the non-lethal, we're gonna have to go full-NERF on this one."
Also, "That's Jesus!"

The Moppets sleeping together in cat bed= LOL!
Dean thinking Sgt. Hatred's arrival at the Compound was the Rapture was also funny, as well as the bit with the Henchmen and Hank and Dean trying to guess which video game the noise from the Moppet's tracking device is from. I'm so glad a TV show had the cajones to make fun of that conceit, since you usually hear the noises from the Atari 2600 version of Pac-Man on TV shows.

My absolute favorite line from the episode, though:
"...I loved you in Fire Walk With Me."
The show is still amazing, but I hope they don't fall too in love with their own universe and in-jokes, and forget to keep it, you know, funny. Self-referential humor is great (viz: Arrested Development), but a show as broad and weird as Venture has to know where to draw the line.
With that said, Sgt. Hatred is ****ing awesome. I love how they actually built on his pedophilia (there's a statement I never thought I'd make) that was hinted at last season, when the bros got kidnapped by "their mother."

Funny episode, but I had to deal with a missed chunk of video on the website. Glad we TiVo'ed it; need to burn it later tonight. Brock's reactions to all kinds of things in this episode were pretty spectacular. The teenager (Dermot?) reminded me of one of the supporting characters on King of the Hill.
Surprised they managed to cram so many characters in one episodes. Especially like how friendly Trianna was towards Dean in this ep, and his beatdown on that douchebag (and Brock's subsequent reaction to it) made me giddy. I do like that now they've given us a new mystery of who the mother is. For a split-second, I thought it was Myra.
But seriously, Johnny Que- uh, ACTION JOHNNY freaking out at Dean was AMAZING. As was the continuation of everyone assuming Hank's gay. "Walter Melon," and Hank's delivery of it, almost killed me.

Does anybody think Dermot's father is Brock, and Leslie Cohen is his mother?
Just throwing that out there.

Oh, most definitely (I touched on it briefly above) -- stuff like Rusty's comment to Brock ("Wait 'till you have kids of your own") is subtle foreshadowing to what's probably coming down the road.

The newest episode, ""Dr. Quymn, Medicine Woman" is already up at the Adult Swim site.
(The extremely limber and MIL*y Dr. Quymn was very briefly glimpsed for a couple of seconds a few weeks ago in The Monarch's "Facebook." That lower back of hers is like a total bullseye.)
"...'Operation: Do Rusty' is solid!"
"He was upside down for awhile. Blood probably rushed to his...uhhhh."
"...C.S.I."
"I need a stiff one in me after that car ride." Followed almost immediately by:
"This one handles a stick like it's got herpes!" And then:
"OHHHHH...you pretty thing!"
Col. Horace was on fire in this one. (Or "flaming," I should say.)
I just wanna say, I've been cracking myself up for days now, thinking about Sgt. Hatred saying "Au Bon Pain." That whole little reluctant-retreat scene was great.

I'm gonna call it here: Dr Quymn and Dr Venture are brother and sister. Her "dad" is into guys. His dad was making out with her mom. They look similar. And it's about the only place left to go to further ruin Venture's love life.

Re-watched this episode again, last night -- this show has officially reached legend-status. Too many great lines to quote. Loved the wide range of references in this episode, from Every Which Way But Loose to Jungle Fever. Awesome.
The Ginnie-vs.-Brock burning-bed scene kinda reminded me of the Molotov C**ktease-vs.-Brock burning-bed fight scene (if I remember correctly).
I was waiting for Dean to tell the twins that he was saving himself for Trianna. Also...how wrong is it to be attracted to the Nancy Drew girls? Never mind, don't answer that. I'll just say: poor, dumb Dean...his learning-bed really needs a lesson on what to do when twin girls want to ravage you.
First tip: Don't accuse them of being crocodile-monsters.
Also, this week's shirt, "Retro Dean," is up for ordering. Love the blurb:
Ladies love Dean. So prove the love in this 70% cotton/30% polyester American Apparel Melange T-shirt that just says "Dean!" and there's a picture of Dean on it. Men, you're allowed to love Dean, too, so it comes in your size also. This is the one that started it all! The one you've been waiting for! Arguably the least attractive shirt in the Shirt Club lineup. What were you expecting, a Quymn logo? **** that -- it's Dean!
