The first Watchmen trailer is now up.

Words fail me.

I mean, it's weird enough that I'm not only actually watching real footage from a Watchmen movie, but a Watchmen movie that looks like it might actually be done RIGHT...I almost can't believe it. Even Moore can only be irate about this.

So many incredibly beautiful shots in that trailer. I haven't decided if I was more thrilled by the shots of Dr. Manhattan, or Malin Akerman walking down the stairs in her Silk Spectre outfit.

Regarding the zero-narrative form of it, I doubt the general public will even make out the Osterman-Manhattan throughline. The "What the ****?!?"s will be legion this weekend. I cannot wait to start shoving the book into people's hands.

This wasn't supposed to happen. It was deemed impossible to translate the material.

Damn.

Not surprisingly, Empire's servers are down. Overloaded, no doubt, with fans eager for the Watchmen trailer.

AICN now has a YouTube version up, or you can go here for the Quicktime version.

Love that Smashing Pumpkins song in the trailer, BTW ("The Beginning is the End is the Beginning" remix, I believe it is).

I would merely like to state...

"...Yes, please."

It's a pretty brilliant and clever touch to intentionally use that particular Pumpkins song, which was the theme for Batman & Robin -- arguably the worst superhero movie of all time -- for this trailer, given the original work's commentary on the superhero genre.

In other words, it's meta as ****, as it should be.

I think it looks great. My one criticism, is, in fact, it looks too good. The comic was very realistic-looking, in that the action and most costumes were very matter-of-fact, not moody and stylised. The action in the trailer is much more over-the-top, with the Comedian swinging a punch that knocks a hole in the wall, and Nite Owl looking cool rather than dorky.

Having said that however, it does look pretty cool. And speaking of cool, how much fun was Jeffrey Dean Morgan having? That shot of the Comedian with the flamethrower just rocks.

It's partially a good trailer- though I think the choice of music degrades the overall product, makes its eem like it can't decide if it's supposed to be funny or fully serious.

I've read the script, and its neither. The younger years are very Capra-esque. That's intercut with the Bush Administration's lead-up to the Iraq War, which is more in line with what Stone has done before. But there's comedic moments throughout the flick, appropriately.

I am more curious about the first part,it guess i just wanna see a president in less serious situations.

I was rather shocked to see just how much they made the actors look like their real life counterparts. Brolin has the mannerisms down pat, but I was more shocked to see the absolutely glamorous Thandie Newton doing a dead ringer for Condi. I'm a fan of Stone (yes, I have to finally admit it), so this should be fun at least, though being a fan doesn't mean I accept his word as gospel.
