It's a pretty good movie.

One thing I really, really like about this trailer is how it gives us a quick taste of the fantastic comedic performances of the cast. I particularly liked it that they included what is (for me) one of the best build ups and pay offs in the entire film with Wilder and Leachman on the stairs. laugh

I don't think Gene Wilder was ever funnier than he was in this film. Love the tag line of the trailer. Picture perfect Mel Brooks.

After the huge success of Blazing Saddles, you notice Brooks and the studio made certain that Blazing Saddles was mentioned in the trailer. You go with your strengths, and Brook's popularity was peaking with these two films. Smart marketing. I liked the way he worked it in, too. I'm struck by how different the two films look, yet they're both very funny.

Unfortunately, you're right; Wilder was downhill from here.

Though I still have to get around to seeing the whole film, I've seen a lot of Young Frankenstein through clips and it playing on cable a lot these past couple years. Very funny film that, unlike Blazing Saddles, still holds up perfectly today.

The trailer does a good job of catching the comedic tone of the film, while having a good laugh at the older style of trailers (intentionally or not).

Any more takers on the Young Frankenstein trailer?

Going once, going twice, going three times! Done. It's archived in the thread if anyone wants to watch it. grin

Since today is Memorial Day in the United States, and since the 65th anniversary of D-Day is coming up on June 6th, I thought it would be appropriate here to watch the trailer for Saving Private Ryan.

Saving Private Ryan trailer(1998)

I thought this was a very classy trailer which sets up the challenging dilemma for the Tom Hanks character and his men. It gives the premise, without the conclusion, or the details of the resolution.

I missed commenting on those two ESB trailers. Hadn't seen those before, but I found them both pretty hilarious. Best moment in the first one was the introduction of "Landau Calrissian!" (as in Martin Landau Calrissian? I LOVE him!)

And that's some seriously hilarious Ford narration on the second one.

Young Frankenstein is easily Brooks' best film and his least dated. You can see the real brilliance in the trailer, mainly because of the pure balls to the walls energy of Wilder. His read of that "Give my creation life! Do You hear, LIIIIIIIIIIFE?" is just sidesplittingly funny. He never, I think, tried this hard again. He deserved an Oscar nom for this movie.

It's interesting you mentioned Wilder deserved an Oscar nomination for Young Frankenstein. I would certainly agree with you. But it's so rare comedy performances are nominated, let alone given Oscars. At least Madeline Khan, Wilder's fellow cast member, received a nomination for her comedic performance as Lily Von Schtupp in Brook's other classic Blazing Saddles.

I love this trailer. I know a lot of people lament this film, and call it over-rated, but I still really enjoy it. I hate war movies and I really enjoy this one. The trailer specifically does a wonderful job of establishing the concept without taking the cliched route of an action packed trailer that focuses on the intensity of the film, but rather utilizes voice over and familiar but vague imagery from the film and what looks to be archival material. It really pulls you into the time and the purpose behind the mission, making it feel less like a major motion picture and more like a documentary culled form archival footage, telling this story. What little they show of the film could mostly be old filmstock from the war, or emphasizes the voice over. Its wonderfully minimal but perfectly establishes the story the feeling of the film.

Excellent Trailer IMO.

Which, ironically, is actually a pretty bad performance.

That's a sharp observation, especially since, even though it was a fictional story, Spielberg largely gave the film itself a documentary feel which is indeed present in the trailer.

It's a very uneven movie, but there are many good things.

This trailer is not one of them. Way, way too long.
