The whole premise is rather silly and illogical, but somehow it works.

I'm trying to think of how many movie fantasies, franchises, tv shows and comic books that this sentence could refer to. If silly and illogical premises didn't somehow work, half of show business would be unemployed. wink

And now (drum roll!)...

Spider-Fan hit the nail on the head. Its easy to see why the trailer pulled after 9/11, but its still a really well done teaser.

That's a great little trailer. The idea of the trailer being entirely self-contained works great for several reasons; not least is that it spoils absolutely nothing of the movie (yes, I know, it's only a teaser). And the final image is a stunner, regardless of the Trade Centers or not.

It still strikes me that Spider-Man was very much a pre-9/11 movie and Spider-Man 2 very much a post-9/11 movie; it's kind of a shame they couldn't just cast it that way, but I suppose the film would have collapsed under its own pretensions and it was really far too soon after the tragedies for people to have been thinking about it like that. But looking back, that's the way the movies feel to me.

Though SM1 still benefits from a post-9/11 POV. A couple small scenes like that "you mess with one us, you mess with all of us" played really well in theaters.

It certainly did. I remember some of that reaction myself.

Moving on from the Spiderman 2001 Teaser, we now take a visit to Sin City.

Sin City 2005

The Robert Rodriguez-Frank Miller collaboration had a trailer that let you know this wasn't going to be a conventional film. It certainly wasn't a conventional trailer.

What's your opinion? Thumbs up or thumbs down for this highly stylized trailer?

God, that teaser is amazing. I was crazy about it when it first came out (and I've never read any of the comics). Looked absolutely fantastic, had a couple good entyries into the Lexicon of Badassery, has a spectacular energy to it- thanks to, in great part, the use of the "Cells" music track. That track just caught the right energy to things note-perfectly.

It's also not that often that a particular music track used in a trailer for a movie, but not appearing in the movie itself, becomes so heavily associated with that movie even after the movie has come and gone like that- see it being used for the DVD menus of the initial DVD release, etc. So much so that it just seemed outright out of place appearing in other movies that were quick to use it in Sin City's wake, like Transporter 2.

I was thrilled The Servant released a special instrumental version of the song for those digging it from this teaser.

The visuals were grabbing too- they certainly sold that element well in the trailer. My favorite shot being Marv in the rain.

Definitely (in case you couldn't already tell wink ) ranks amongst my favorite trailers ever.

The Sin City trailer is one of the most arresting I've ever seen. I have a tendency to save new trailers on my hard drive when they're released, if they're for movies I'm looking forward to. I usually erase them after the movie's been released, but I've kept the Sin City trailer for its sheer awesomeness.

That and I don't think it's on the original DVD. sad

Definitely a cool trailer. Smart in that it avoids showing the weaker effects from the film (like Marv's glow-tape bandages).

In some ways Sin City feels like a response to Kill Bill. Both are movies with a huge heaping of style and minimal substance. And as with Grindhouse, Rodriguez manages to create an effective and entertaining tribute/companion piece to the source material while Tarantino meanders through his own idiosyncrasies not caring a whit whether or not the audience is following.

As for the music, it's certainly effective, but I guess I never saw the trailer enough to associate the two. I've seen Transporter 2 several times and never thought any of the music was out of place. Besides, the bass riff from Sin City's actual score is way better.

Hey, they were the whole origin of my halloween costume that year! (did a Marv costume, painting my face partially gray and partially black, with white bandages contrasting the two areas)

The Lexicon of Baddassery was forged with 300, but retroactively includes lines from films such as Sin City, Army of Darkness and They Live cool

Not on the DVD??? That really surprises me. A great trailer like this would seem to be a natural for inclusion in the DVD special features.

Not the originally released DVD, which is what I bought. I'm sure it made it onto the extended cut, which I don't have. sad

Awesome trailer-love the cast list. This movie should be in that thread about "that's some casting director".
