I agree about that Bourne comment. Bond shouldn't just become a Bourne rip-off. Craig was great in CR, but he was certainly missing a good bit of the charm that Connery and Brosnan especially brought. Hopefully that won't go completely missing.

^They could also use a great villain, and this trailer doesn't show us one. I think they are still cautiously finding their feet in this new, revamped Bond series, and will slowly bring in the more characteristic Bond touches as the films progress.
I could do with a film where he just does his job without going rogue or it being incredibly personal, though. Dr No, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger... they still worked without having a "this time it's personal" theme.

I agree with you, but we now all know Casino Royale was just the start of this story arc,
so they had to finish it. I would prefer a stand alone film too.
Based on the trailer, it does look like they're going in the Bourne direction, and I'm opposed to that.

I have to agree, the idea of Bond as just a bloke doing his job in the most phlegmatic way imaginable is much more appealing to me, personally.

Except it has to be at least somewhat personal, or you'll turn off a lot of viewers.

Wow, that was impressive. Looking at that, it's hard to believe this is Marc Forster's first action film.

But if it's always going to be "at least somewhat personal", doesn't it make it repetitive?

Erm, no? Fiction has been consistently personal since The Iliad. And it seems to be holding up fine enough.

Are we even talking about the same thing? Bond could take on a mission and not make it "personal" but we are still involved in the character.

The trailer didn't have me thinking "Bourne" so much as "License to Kill". It's not like Bond hasn't gone rogue before.

True, but the trailer seems to show us that's pretty much the focus of the film. I think that's a dead end, because you know he's not going to be rogue forever, because then he wouldn't be 007.

Yeah, isnt this like the third time that he has been a rouge agent? The whole revenge thing has been played before too. You could also say that this big orginization is a rip-off of SPECTRE.

Except that the series rebooted with the last film, so saying the above is sort of like saying, "Didn't they already do the Joker thing in Batman almost twenty years ago?"
The 'going rogue for revenge' again bit doesn't bother me, for several reasons. 1) Bond just met Felix Leiter in CR, and obviously the man wasn't half-eaten by a shark. So in the new continuity, this is really the FIRST time Bond's gone rogue, and 2) Bond going rogue in LtK was awesome, so I'd love to see another version of that journey.
Also, I don't think it's fair to call this new organization a rip-off of SPECTRE when it's still possible that it'll turn out to BE the new continuity's SPECTRE.
I know some people want to just see 'Bond on the job', but the way I look at it is this: the filmmakers have set up a multi-film character arc for Bond. This is something that's only really been tried once, when they set a course in OHMSS but aborted it with DAF. I'd like for them to take a few films to flesh out this arc and finish telling the character story they're currently telling, and THEN if they want they can go back to quippy on-the-job superhero Bond movies.

Have the producers ever said they are rebooting the Bond franchise the way the Batman franchise was rebooted? I just always assumed that the filmmakers didnt care about continuity since there have already been issues with that in the past. If it is true that they are rebooting the franchise, then people should be calling this BOND 2 instead of BOND 22. And the filmmakers shoould be ADAMANT that it is BOND 2.
