Agreed, those books (which came as a set) are right hilarious. Not to mention informative, imaginative and just plain fun.
I'll probably pick up Beedle, too -- if only to read DD's commentary, which should be priceless. But priceless or not, like most of you I'll be sticking with the common-man edition.

That's the big sellign point for me, too. But definitely the regular version. No signed velvet bag for me, thanks.

Well, the only thing different in the Collector's Edition that's not in the Standard Edition is the fancy casing and 10 new illustrations. I don't give a damn about the fancy casing, and those illustrations are going to appear online anyway. So yeah, Standard Edition for me, too.

Well, if I find out that reading the book is absolutely worthless without the velvet bag, I'll make one myself. I can saw, after all.

Can't believe I wrote "saw" instead of "sew"... My bad. Doesn't happen often.

I think that's what you call a Freudian slip.

I don't know anything about a Freudian slip ( ), but English is not my first language - does that excuse me from an occasional mistyping?

No.
No more than it excuses mine.
In Potter News, or, more appropriately, lack thereof, still no verdict in the JKR-RDR law suit, or any indication when we'll get one. I guess the judge is taking a little longer than he expected to read all 7 books.

That's a gorgeous new cover. It's a rare event to have the same cover artist as an original printing render a new cover for a book's 10-year anniversary. Comparing the two covers (scroll down the linked page to see the original), we see how far Grandpre has come in her command of her medium. Her pastels have never looked more sumptuous, the mood she conjures never more evocative. Since I only have the paperback printing of the first book, I look forward to owning the new hardback with great eagerness.

I have to say I prefer the new cover, but I suppose the old one served the purpose of trying to interest an audience (action scene). I'm more interested in the additions to the text they're hinting about. Rowling did say she wanted to do a revised edition of the series.

Revised versions (of the first two or three books, at least) with more stuff added would be nice.
