Hey all!

This is the official thread to discuss Showtime's quirky comedy Weeds. Post synopsis, opinions, whatever.

I'm actually looking for detailed recaps of the last two episodes if anyone has them.

Don't get "Showtime". How many seasons has it been on?

It just ended its 2nd season. Mary Louise Parker won a Golden Globe like a year or two ago for Best Actress for the first season. It's about a woman whose husband dies and to support herself and her kids, she sells weed. It's pretty funny. Elizabeth Perkins is in it and she's just mean but hilarious.

This is one of my favorite shows on television. Great cast and excellent writing. I'm really looking forward to next season to see how Nancy gets out of her "predicament."

Convince me. happy

It's very good, Ive_Got_Two_Legs. Enormously entertaining. Great casting, great characters, great writing. Rent the first season. I don't think you'll be disappointed. The way Season 2 just ended, it's going to be a heck of a long wait for Season 3.

Majorly bumping this thread to say yes it has been renewed for a third season which, IIRC starts airing in August.

I didn't like this show. It's not that funny. I've only watched the first season, but it seemed too unbelievable (yes I know it's just a TV show), wasn't that funny. I can sum it up for the people that haven't seen the show: Mom sells weed to support family. Her kids are unbelievably belligerent. Buys weed from stereotypical black family. Lot's of people do drugs and have sex.

You mean, the show's kinda like real life?

Many people mistake it for a sitcom-style comedy, and come into it expecting some sort of sight gag or toilet humor every five seconds. Weeds tries to actually be funny, not pander to the braindead masses that relish the classic american sitcom. It has a dry, witty humor interjected into several larger dramatic storylines. I feel that Showtime has mislabeled this program as a comedy, when it should be a family drama with comedic elements. The acting is superb, the dialogue is consistently natural and organic, and the program tends to be factually correct.

I think that everyone is depriving themselves if they don't make the effort to watch at least the first few episodes, to see if they like it. Unlike a lot of programs, Weeds has a tendency to get better with each episode, and has kept up the upward climb in quality throughout both seasons. The first couple episodes can drag a bit, but it that really doesn't happen anymore by the second half of Season One.

My one gripe is the stereotypical black family that sells drugs. That part is just too cookie-cutter, and really isn't reflective of what you'll encounter in real life.

Tonight:

8-9PM Showtime, TV-MA "Weeds" A-

"Just like that, t all goes up in flames. After a stellar season of suburban subterfuge, ruthless drug bosses, and almost as much sex as an episode of Tell Me You Love Me, Weeds concludes with conflagration: Fires race through Majestic, torching Nancy's (Mary-Louise Parker) ticky-tacky enterprise. (The episode was filmed before the California wildfires.) It's a long story of Latino heavies, mean bikers, and a string of others that begins to sound like ''There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly.'' Come to think of it, things didn't end well for her, either."

I like the show, but not enough to get Showtime, because it'd be the only thing I'd watch regularly on the premium channels.

So I usually wait until the whole season is out on DVD and rent 'em and watch the whole season in 1-2 days. I'm looking forward to the Season 3 DVD set.
