Ah, Moby-Dick: one of my favorite novels. I never cared for the character of Ahab. He was very elusive in the novel. He stuck to his cabin most of the time; only emerging, foaming at the mouth when a whale was spotted. Luckily, Melville peppered his story with sundry other interesting characters.

And now I present the only two times Peck tried villainy (to my knowledge): "The Boys from Brazil" (in which he is absolutely laughable as Mengele) and "Duel in the Sun", which I haven't seen.
He didn't play the villain in "Cape Fear", did he? Good reason. He'd be miscast. Peck is not right as Ahab; he can't convey obsession.

He certainly conveyed obsession to me.

YMMV. Next:
52. Hansel and Gretel
This choice puzzled me, but it is a universal trope...the nasty stepmother, the abandoned children, and the nasty female villain. I suggest the brilliant Bugs Bunny cartoon ("Hansel?") for those who want their Freudianism laid bare, so to speak.

The obscenity-ridden version of this tale Stephen King put in his foreward to the unabridged edition of The Stand is pretty awesome.

It's really brilliant, Zaz. Not only is it funny, it actually provides a pretty good explanation of why the unabridged version of The Stand existed at all.
Probably the only line that I can post here is:
"After awhile, Hansel and Gretel ran into a witch who was into cannibalism."

If that's the first line, it's a keeper...

The first line would violate the TOS.

I haven't seen that in decades! My god, how did Chuck Jones get away with some of that stuff?
Brilliant, gutsy and very very subversive. HANSEL????

Isn't that great? And I say, how did Michael Maltese get away with it? He was the writer/artist on all Jones' best, and Jones' cartoons without him are ordinary.

Next: Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock
Captain Kirk
Mr. Spock
Actually, I suspect (and I don't know, because I don't have a copy of the book) and our guys made the list on the strength of being the origins of (shudder) slash fanfiction. That phenomenon is explained here Kirk/Spock

One line that always amused me is the line in Star Trek V when Kirk is so excited and thrilled to see Spock is alive after the battle, and I think Kirk embraces Spock on the Klingon ship. Spock's reaction, which is of course deadpan but absolutely hilarious,
"please Captain, not in front of the Klingons."
As funny as it is, I don't think it was meant to imply anything unusual about their friendship.

It's not ever hinted at in canon...
Next: 49. Tarzan
The lost lordling raised by animals has definite appeal, and is derived from Romulus and Remus, and "The Jungle Book"...
