Hmmm, good point. But since most of the rest of the film was so liberally "borrowed" from much of the precepts of Neuromancer and cyperpunk-genre in general, is that surprising?

It's an 'homage.'

Basically. The English translation is generally 'plagarism.'

Now, now.
Plagiarism is if George had just ended ANH with the end scenes from Triumph of the Will. Which he basically did, just with a different setting, characters, actors, and a completely different message.

I have to say I preferred the Club Hel version, brief as it was.

I really can't see a problem with it. At all.

Well, considering that everyone in Zion seemed to have the whole techno-punk thing going during their trips into the Matrix (attending clubs, etc), it makes sense that they'd have some of that genre interest in real life as well.
Or would you have preferred Morpheus break into a rendition medley of "Rock the Casba" and "Wang Chung"?

Yeah, the Zion club scene wasn't good at all. I might as well been watching MTV's Spring Break. Also, there was no purple-nurpling like in the Club Hel scene. When you see that kind of thing on an IMAX screen, it never leaves you.
