Boomer_Athena posted: It's always perplexed me how Joel Schumacher could make a dark, dangerous, detective story like 8mm, yet he couldn't apply some of the same formulas to his Batman outings.
I think about Schumacher's up-and-down career when I watch Falling Down, though I think some of that film's undertones may have come from the film's French producers.

The nipples may be unfairly maligned. After all, the fake plastic abs are pretty stupid, too.

Batman Forever was not a bad Batman movie. Sure, there's some stuff wrong with it, but for the most part, I liked the story and acting.
Batman and Robin. Wow. What a way to kill a franchise.

I didn't find Val Kilmer's Batman as much as most people probably do. But the whole batsuit controversy over nipples is silly. Of all the things to complain about with those movies everyone complains about the nipples.

I think they all knew it'd be bad.

How did you miss the nipples? Schumacher only had a zillion closeup shots of them, in the two movies he directed.

Terrorism, global warming, gang wars, North Korea...it's a perilous world...
but if you want to get people stirred up on the net, your best bet is Batman's nipples!
The first time I saw them on the big screen, I nearly fell out of my chair. What the hell?
The whole theatre started buzzing and laughing. It provoked quite a reaction and not a
good one I might add. I guess it went by some people. I miss things sometimes too.
Not even the highly imaginative Tim Burton thought to add nipples to the suit.
And we know how wild his mind is. Nope. That's the one area of visual design where
Schumacher surpassed Burton. Don't know if that was such a good thing, though.

That, and Schumacher, for whatever reason, thought it was his civil duty to make his Batman movies resemble a laser Floyd show.

Robin was more of a disaster than the plastic nipples, actually.

I think it was Roger Ebert who summed up this movie when he said it was subtextuallya movie about Bruce Wayne seducing the leather clad Dick (!) Grayson to become his partner in sadomasochism.
I've never been able to get that out of my head and it does make that motorcycle scene make a little more sense.
