I don't recall ever hearing of the Baroness' origin in either the comic or the cartoon, but I doubt she was English. In the cartoon, she had that generic Euro-trash accent. For the movie, maybe Angelina Jolie could pull that off.

I'll go to see this no matter what it's called in the end. Wonder what rating it'll get? Probably PG-13(in the US at least).

It depends upon the way they proceed with it; it could go either way.

Yes, Destro was Irish or does no one remember the time Major Bludd usurped his ancestral home and his mask and the two Destros had a royal smackdown with Flint and Lady Jaye watching? great comic.

I have a ton of the old comics; love the big cast of characters. It could be awesome if done right.

Don't think it was actually Ireland...

Yeah, it would have been in Scotland, as he was Laird of Destro Castle (hence his name) in the Highlands. Major Bludd is an Australian, so that might be why there's some Irish confusion.

Anyway, Destro definitely isn't of African descent so to have him played by Delroy Lindo is somewhat off the mark.

With the way casting has been going over the last year with some of the movies I've anticipated the most, I'm pretty confident Cobra Commander will be played by Shia Labeouf. plain

Got this from Countingdown.com

August 23, 2007 — Paramount Pictures has set Stephen Sommers to direct "G.I. Joe," the live-action feature based on Hasbro's line of action figures, says Variety.

The studio is hiring a writer immediately, and has set a February production start for a summer 2009 release.

The accelerated production schedule began right after Sommers pitched his version of the film to Par chairman-CEO Brad Grey and production prexy Brad Weston on Wednesday evening. He was hired in the room.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura will produce with Hasbro chief operating officer Brian Goldner. Sommers and his Sommers Co. partner Bob Ducsay will also be involved as producers.

While "G.I. Joe" served several futile tours of duty as a movie property, its momentum has been helped by "Transformers," the movie transfer of another Hasbro brand. That di Bonaventura-produced film has grossed $667 million worldwide for studio partners DreamWorks and Paramount.

Hasbro's Goldner said that the mythology of G.I Joe was fleshed out during the 1980s through 155 issues of Marvel Comics, as well as an animated TV series. There are about 30 core characters, good and evil, that can be exploited in films.

"Marrying Steve's vision with 25 years of this brand mythology feels like a great way to go forward," Goldner said.

While some remember the character from its gung-ho fighting man '60s incarnation, he's evolved. G.I. Joe is now a Brussels-based outfit that stands for Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity, an international co-ed force of operatives who use hi-tech equipment to battle Cobra, an evil organization headed by a double-crossing Scottish arms dealer. The property is closer in tone to "X-Men" and James Bond than a war film.

So they don't even work for the American government anymore?!! angry

They should go back and watch the TV show again. If a GI Joe movie is going to happen it HAS to be a war movie.

Just go on and freely state:

This movie is going to have nothing in common with the cartoon you all loved. It'll be awful and filled with Pepsi product placements.

Now, take a deep breath, let it out, and go pay your ten dollars in a doomed attempt to reclaim your childhood before you go back to toiling in a cubicle. tongue

The comic was excellent, but even there was crossover between comics/cartoon in some respects. Also, nothing will top the two-parter cartoon episodes War Without End and the single-episode with Mara the merwoman. Those were both high drama right there!

Although, if you say "Death of Kwinn the Eskimo and General Flagg" and/or "Silent Interlude" and/or "SFX" I may be willing to discuss the matter rationally. wink
