This could go either way. On the one hand the new TMNT movie was really good. On the other hand Transformers was really bad.
I'm going to guess that it will probably suck, but Quest will like it.

dp4m posted: The comic was excellent, but even there was crossover between comics/cartoon in some respects. Also, nothing will top the two-parter cartoon episodes War Without End and the single-episode with Mara the merwoman. Those were both high drama right there!
Although, if you say "Death of Kwinn the Eskimo and General Flagg" and/or "Silent Interlude" and/or "SFX" I may be willing to discuss the matter rationally.
It's not so much that I think the cartoon sucks, because it didn't(most of the time).
It's just that the comic was so much more realistic, over the cartoon. It just seems like the movie would be better off adapting that kind of material. Plus, it's Snake-Eyes and Scarlett, not Duke and Scarlett!!!!

Likewise, it will probably pretty fun, but Soontir will loathe it, if only to preserve his black, black soul.

Well, they could get Zemeckis to helm it and use his mo-cap tech instead of the rotatscoped dancing in the cartoon..

God the comic was traumatic. Some of the characters actually got shot by real bullets and died
BTW, I'm a Duke/Scarlett shipper to the end.

It's really a shame that they've decided to go the Tom Clancy route. This could've been the greatest film that Paul Verhoeven never made (in the wholly satirical sense).

R-rated GI Joe, huh? So basically Starship Troopers without the Bugs?

Im going to agree that Ray Park is the best choice for Snake-Eyes, for obvious reasons. I would rather keep Snake-Eyes single, a man like him wouldnt be looking for love. Hes got that whole "curse" thing plus hes a mute and hella ugly. aIf they did pare them up in the movie I hope they have a break up or one of them dies, just to create some more drama for Snakes, he isnt suppose to have good things happen to him.
Does anyone watch Sigma 6? I do just to update my knowledge on everything Joe, and to see what there doin to it..

"R-rated GI Joe, huh? So basically Starship Troopers without the Bugs?"
Sure. Think about it: a crazy, lisping baddie who dresses up in spandex and a hood that looks like a cross between a ski mask and a Klan hood and calls himself "Cobra." He in turn runs an organization full of mostly androgynous terrorists (also in spandex) who seem to have serious sexual identity issues.
They fight against a group of idealized American "heroes" (eerily reminiscent of TEAM AMERICA: WORLD POLICE), who dress in military fatigues and various other bizarre costumes, all while eschewing wholesome "American values." It's Bush's "Dead or Alive" anti-terrorism campaign fantasy come to life.
That and Verhoeven is one of the greatest living satirical directors.
P.S. I loved, loved, loved G.I. Joe as a child. I think my toys are still in my parents' attic somewhere.

Do you remember that porn star mustache he ended up having when we finally saw his face after PIT II collapsed on top of him?
Also, yes, the comics own the show six ways from Sunday; the whole Scarface/Qwinn/Major Bludd/Destro thing that culminated when Venom, Qwinn and Flagg died was just fantastic writing. Who saw General Flagg's death coming? WHO?!

Hasbro comments on GI Joe movie
Hasbro's G.I. Joe Team wanted to take this opportunity to clarify some of the facts regarding the G.I. Joe live-action movie that we are developing with Paramount Pictures.
First and foremost, we are not changing what the G.I. Joe brand is about. The name "G.I. Joe" will always be synonymous with bravery and heroism.
The G.I. Joe brand has enjoyed a successful 43-year history, spanning two key generations. The first was the line of 12-inch "realistic military" figures that were popular with kids in the 1960s and 1970s.
The second generation, was created in 1982, and is based on a cast of fictional heroes and villains that make up the "G.I. Joe vs. Cobra" fantasy. The premise of this fantasy is the story of the G.I. Joe team, led by Duke, and their "fight for freedom wherever there is trouble" against the evil Cobra Commander and his Cobra force. This storyline was an instant hit with kids in the early 1980s, spawning a highly popular 3-3/4-inch action figure line, comic book collection and animated series.
This movie will be a modern telling of the "G.I. Joe vs. Cobra" storyline and its compelling characters that Hasbro created 25 years ago. The G.I. Joe team will not be based in Brussels. Instead, they will be based out of the "Pit" as they were throughout the 1980s comic book series. And, in keeping with the G.I. Joe vs. Cobra fantasy, the movie will feature characters and locations from around the world. Duke, the lead character and head of the G.I. Joe team, will embody the values of bravery and heroism that the first generation of G.I. Joe figures established.
G.I. Joe is a very important property to Hasbro and we thank all of our fans for their enthusiasm. Without all of you, the brand would not be where it is today.

interesting, no mention of America, the USA or anything in the Hasbro statement. I think they're going to go for the global market and castrate GI Joe in the process.
I guess GI Joe will fight for the United Nations in a blue helmet...ya! that's gonna be inspirational.
do they even know the history of G.I. Joe?

Apparently not. Its nice to see that they are keeping Cobra as the Joes' principal enemy, but If you know anything about the history of the Joes, both in-universe and the evolution of the toy line, then you know that the Joes are unmistakeably Americans and always have been. Hence the title of the TV show, "GI Joes: Real AMERICAN Heroes"
