I just found the movie Volcano on tv, starring Tommy Lee Jones. He gives a great performance, even with the mediocre dialogue and general sillyness of the movie itself. It got me thinking-- what are some great performances by actors/actresses in bad movies? Any ideas????

Elijiah Wood in "The Good Son". Wood was excellent in a really thankless role. Macauley Culkin, OTOH, sucked as the title character and villain of the piece.

Bill Pullman as Corso in Titan AE. He makes for a surprisingly good bad guy in what is otherwise, not a particulairly great movie.

I don't think it's a bad movie at all, but it seems like not many people care for it, but Kurt Russell's performance in Dark Blue is oscar worthy. Pick any random scene, he's outstanding.

Similarly, Don Johnson in the overlooked Dead Bang. Maybe not oscar worthy, but he's terrific in it.

Personally, Hugh Jackman in "The Fountain" comes to mind quickly.

Val Kilmer in Alexander. It was about the only thing good, besides a naked Rosario Dawson, in that craptacular piece of Stone-cinema.

Ian McDiarmid: The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith (though RotS was a decent film in its own right).

Agreed!

I would put forth Brian Blessed in TPM and Flash Gordon. ALong with Peter Wyngarde. What the heck the WHOLE CAST of Flash Gordon.

Sigourney Weaver in Alien Resurrection. Despite the ridiculous premise, dialogue, and direction, Weaver rises above it all to be the one good thing in the whole flick.
