Lost in Space wasn't a particularly good movie, but he gave a somewhat better performance in this movie that he did as Duke Sleepo in Dune. At least he was awake for this movie. tongue

I'm torn between being glad that he's ashamed, and being angry he's ashamed. If you know it's a suck role, then don't take it.

If Lost in Space is going to be cited, I'd be looking more in Gary Oldman's direction, when it comes to paycheck-grabbing. tongue

Though there were other "stars" in that film, each of them taking parts in the movie were understandable.

Hey, if someone offered me an excessive amount of money to appear in their crappy movie, why not? I don't see anything wrong with cashing in every now and then. It depends on how you want to be seen though. If you want to be taken seriously, you need to balance it out with probably two or three 'respectable' flicks for evey money grab. Kingsley seems to do it well, because he sure has some crap on his resume but he is still viewed as an esteemed actor. Hurt does pretty well also. Nicholas Cage...his resume has definitely tended towards the crap end over the last several years.

Next: "11. Laurence Olivier in "Clash of the Titans"

(1981) It had to suck to be Laurence Olivier. Sure, you're one of the world's greatest actors. But the catch-22 is that you can't just say ''Screw it, I'm gonna cut loose, throw on a toga, and ham it up as Zeus.'' Or can you? Olivier lets his Athenian freak flag fly as the original god father. While Harry Hamlin undergoes the trials of Perseus, Olivier kicks back on Mount Olympus making googly eyes at Ursula Andress' Aphrodite."

As campy as this is, it still doesn't compare with Laurance Olivier in "The Betsey."

10. Demi Moore in "Striptease"(1996)

"In which Moore was paid a then-record $12.5 million to go topless. Okay, she also did some ''acting'' in this dreadful flashdancer-with-a-heart-of-gold saga. But nothing she should be proud of. Not only does Striptease suck, it makes Showgirls look like Schindler's List. And all that Annie Lennox music didn't help. Watching Moore writhe around on all fours, you don't just feel embarrassed for her, you experience a profound existential malaise."

I haven't seen a lot of these... probably a good thing.

But Superman III. Yeaaah... it's actually kind of sad because the Smallville stuff with Clark and Lana is actually nice. And Reeve is indeed awesome in the split role. But, unfortunately, he's a supporting actor to the aggrandizing Pryor in this film. Also, the film has about 4 plots.

Basically, Pryor makes me laugh in this film, but not really for the reasons intended tongue Just because of how shamelessly bad his crap is in it (skiing off a roof?!?) Still, I'm fond of the film because, well... y'know wink

(1987)

"Caine has done so many paycheck roles, he's almost like Walken's cockney doppelgänger. Still, we'll pick this fourth Jaws outing because, after all, ''this time it's personal.'' Caine plays a bush pilot named Hoagie. And he must be a ham-and-cheese hoagie because those are the two settings on his acting. Ironically, this dud cost Caine more than he made: When his name was called to accept his Oscar for Hannah and Her Sisters, he was shooting this great white mess."

In my mind, this is one of the worst examples of paycheck grabbing EVER. Even Caine has publicly admitted it, and after this little "oops I can't accept my Oscar because I'm out making garbage", he backed off of quite so many "mercenary acting" roles.

Caine grew up very poor, and I think he grabbed everything he could in the candy store to make up for it, since England is more of a caste system than the U.S. He was trying to prove something with his bank account. But someone as good as him should have better standards
than raw greed.

I saw him say once in an interview that the reason he didn't want to be a director was that directors have to work a year or two (or more) on a movie, whereas an actor can work in two or three a year and make a lot more money. Quite telling, eh? Anyway, I loved his work in Batman Begins and the Prestige, so I can forgive him for Jaws IV, grin

Next: "8. Judi Dench in "The Chronicles of Riddick"(2004)

"Hey, Dames gotta pay the rent too. Here, Dench ditches the Merchant Ivory frippery to go head-to-head with Vin Diesel in the bloated sequel to 2000's Pitch Black. Dench does double duty as Aereon, a shape-shifting soothsayer, as well as the narrator of the film's opening, where she expounds on Necromongers and the Underverse. Judi, you had us at Necromongers."

Caine actually earned my respect with a line about Jaws IV:

"I didn't actually see the movie. I hear it was quite bad. But I did see the house it built for me and it's quite nice."

I mean, if you're going to do it for the money, at least be witty and honest. laugh
