I've been hearing very mixed reviews about this movie. The Toronto Star said it utterly sucked, when the Guardian gave it 8/10.

My local reviewer said it was good, but then he gave it 2 stars.

These reviewers are all over the map. I have a feeling some of them don't pay attention to the movie, and give it a review from what they heard while drifting in and out.
They see hundreds of movies a year, i'm guessing they're going to be a bit weak in the head after that.

Here's my take. Basically, it was good. Better than the frankly pretty poor Spiderman 3 and Pirates 3, and miles better than Ocean's 12, even if it did feel more like that film than Ocean's 11.
Some moments bordered on brilliant - Rusty's intro, and the scenes with the strike and riot in Mexico come to mind - and the overall heist, revolving around fixing every machine in the casino to pay out over three minutes and twenty seconds continually to the tune of $500 million is bravely original for a heist film.
But this concept is both a gift and a curse. What made Ocean's 11 was the twist ending. You saw the plan being executed but you didn't really follow everything, until Brad Pitt snapped up his visor in the SWAT team suit and you punched the air emotionally as you realised what had gone on along with Benedict. In 013 you know exactly what they're planning from the get-go, and though there are some slight twists (eg the diamonds) there is no real punchline to the film, and this is it's downfall; The pace is off. It starts at a quick trot and never speeds up nor slows down, and i think this impacts the story and the overall tone of the film.
Overall i give O13 seven out of ten for it's rating, and i'd like to clarify that i really enjoyed it and it's probably the first film i've seen since Hot Fuzz that it was a pleasure to watch. I still think 12 and 13 were missed opportunities, but hey, at least this one was a good film too.

Thanks for the information.
I think, based on your review, that i'm going to check it out.
