Just got back from seeing it. Excellent movie. Best of its genre. You do get good looks at the monster, but don't expect any explanation on what it is.

I thought it was great. One of the most intense movies I've ever seen.

I could definatley see a sequel being made. It is obvious that someone found the tape and that they are watching it. So I guess it is safe to assume the monster was killed. A sequel a could see it being shot from a traditional POV, or if they go with the documentary style, it could be from a news crew or a reporter embedded with an army company. It could take place during the same time period as the first one, but it could explain more as to the nature of the monster. (Which I would think would be the next logical step as far as the story goes.)

On another note, here is what I thought what would be a wicked ending for the first. After the tape is finished playing, the film reveals that it has been some military generals, politicians, scientists or something of that matter watching it. Some words are exchanged concerning the tape, and then the order is given for the tape to be destroyed. This ending would lend heavily to the government conspiracy theory and would have a very Raiders of the Lost Ark feel to it.

Yea, everything. It works, too. It gives it a more realistic feel.

Agreed. I thought it was great and intense as well. It also had some good comic relief which made it all the more enjoyable. I too would like to see a sequel where we get another point of view.

Yeah, the one liners were not only funny, but didn't seem forced at all. Which is amazing to me. It sounded like any of the nervous jokes anyone would make in that situation.

Just got back from seeing it and I hated it. Not only was the run time extremely short, but it left much to be desired. You only get a few good glimpses of the monster and nothing is explained as to its origins or what the ultimate outcome is. IMO, those were questions that should've been answered. Of course, it didn't help that I was feeling very sick by the end of it due to the jerky camera. It definitely wasn't worth all the hype.

Oh my effing God! That was pure brilliance! It took all the best parts of Godzilla, Signs, and Blair Witch and put them together to make a fantastic movie!

And for those complaining that it didn't explain the monster, you weren't paying very close attention during the last scene:

During the last scene, when it's the "flashback" to dude & chick at the hotel on the beach you can see something fall out of the sky and land in the water to the right hand side of the shot. Blink and you miss it.

Gah! I keep hearing about that and missed it. Gonna go have to see the movie again. (NOt like I wasn't planning to already, it was FANTASTIC

Along with the surprise at the very end of the credits:

Rob saying something like "Help us." And when reversed says something like "Still Alive"

I just saw it, and I thought it was decent, but I have mixed feelings about it. I thought that the method they filmed it in was very unique, but what really threw me was the lack of music. It made the movie much more eerie and strange.

When the monsters appeared in the tunnel I was very freaked, and the big monster was so strange. The little oones I found almost scarier than the giant one, and those looked like giant fanged octopusses. The large one kinda like a combination between a crab and a lizard, very different. I did like the humorous lines in the movie, but all together I found Cloverfield very different. And it was the first monster movie I've seen where the monster killed everyone and still survived at the end.

I'm bummed that I missed the thing after the credits.

You didn't miss much, it was just crackling and distorted audio for like ten seconds, still creepy sounding, though.

And I was in on the whole viral marketing campaign for the movie. Kind of made me attached to the characters, especially HUD, Rob and Beth. And at the moment when they died I wasn't that phased, more caught up in the moment. But now that I think about it, watching and hearing them die, it kind of feels like you're losing a real person. I think they did a really good job on the viral campaign. They made you really feel for the characters.

I was looking for something during that shot but didn't see anything. Must have been looking on the left side of the screen. I'm disappointed I missed it.
