#100:

FRIENDS - The One With The Prom Video

Air date:February 1, 1996

How to put Ross and Rachel in each other's arms after a season and a half of false starts? Give them an audio-visual aid. Looking at footage from high school in "The One With the Prom Video," Rachel finally recognizes Ross's long-suffering devotion to her. Ever so slowly she crosses the room and kisses him. The fateful video also reveals a chunky teenage Monica (Courteney Cox). When she insists that the camera adds 10 pounds, Chandler (Matthew Perry) asks, "So how many cameras are actually on you?"

I've only seen a few episodes of Friends. Completely not my sense of humour, sorry. I don't find it funny.

Do you have a link to this total list? I'd be interested to glance through it.

I prefer "The One With All the Poker" for sheer laughs. Ross and Rachel never interested me as a couple at all, frankly. Both a couple of neurotics, if you ask me.

How is possibly the single greatest episode of Friends -- one of the most popular sitcoms of the entire last 20 years -- not higher than #100.

Now, there aren't many (like, possibly 2, maybe 3 tops) episodes that would make the list (Friends is not as high a caliber as some earlier, or even later, TV) but only #100?

Ross and Rachel were horrible as a couple. They don't fit together, have completely different interests, etc. They were great, however, as a bickering ex-couple. Their finest moments, imo, were:

1. Ross, still begging Rachel for forgiveness, has the local radio station play With or Without You by U2. The song ends abruptly, however, with the DJ explaining: Rachel just called and told me what you did.

2. The almost reunion in the Hamptons -- The "on a break" dispute kills the whole thing off. For once, Ross acts like a man with a spine, his finest moment. And bonus points for the "your/you're" grammar explanation.

3. The Brad Pitt thanksgiving episode. Love the teeny-weeny.

A perfect world: a house in the Hamptons with two solaria and a horse named Prickely Pete,
Dr. van Nostrand as my primary care physician,
the O-OT legally available on DVD in a quality worthy of its greatness
and Luke the undisputed hero of Star Wars

I'm not a big Friends Fan.

I just looked at the list and I was surprised and appalled that neither "The Contest" or "The Chinese Restaurant" episodes of Seinfeld, did not make the list.

"The Parking Garage" and "The Boyfriend" are great though.

I was not crazy about Friends, though I think I've seen most of them over time. I did remember enjoying this episode for Ross playing "Axel F" on his keyboard - something I can oddly relate to around that age.

Does anybody have this experience: whenever you see a rerun of a certain show, it *always* seems to be the same episode...

I always seem to see The One With All the Cheesecakes on TV. Thankfully, it's one of my top 10 Friends episodes, so I can't complain.

The One with the Prom Video is a great episode... but the best episode of Friends is The One where No One's Ready.
