I'm surprised this doesn't have a topic yet. I saw it last night and loved it. I'm not even a Western fan, so anyone who is will probably adore this movie. Russel Crowe and Christian Bale were excellent, with the latter stealing the show, in my opinion. Ben Foster's character is also quite the bastard and he puts forth quite a performance as well. Hell, even Luke Wilson's in it for a little. Very enjoyable movie with a great score too. I highly recommend it.

I'll be seeing it for Christian Bale alone. He is one of my alltime favorite actors...ever since Empire of the Sun I've followed his career. This movie just shows his range. He can literally play anyone it seems.
Glad to hear it's good. I'm gonna check it out fo sho

I've said it once, I'll say it again, this is the movie of the millennium. Just perfection at its finest, all around, they don't make 'em any better than this. Foster (who I believe had the best performance in the movie), Crowe, Bale, Fonda, Tudyk, Roberts, and everyone else are just absolutely spot-on with their characters. The acting, the direction, the cinematography, the score... it blew me away.
I've been mulling on it a bit, and this is the second best movie I have ever seen in my life, behind the Godfather. A true cinematic masterpiece.

Wow, that is some damn high praise. I was kind of skeptical about the greatness of this film, but that was purely based on my own preconceptions and from the marketing that I've observed. The reviews have been overwhelmingly glowing, and word of mouth is not much worse. I don't like Westerns as a general rule, but I'm willing to suck up that bias and just go see it! Thanks for the encouragement

I am really keen to see this one. Crowe's my favourite actor and he's good even in ordinary films.

Yeah, I understand if my praise for the film seems totally outrageous and exaggerated, but it really isn't. It truly is one of the best movies I have ever had the pleasure to watch.

It's really, really good--I loved it. I didn't realize that the crazy dude that was Crowe's second-in-command was the dude that played Angel in X3. He was awesome. Crowe, Bale and Fonda bring it, as usual.
I can't wait to see it again.

Is it in the same vein as a Leone western?

Saw it a few nights ago, and it was a very film. My only complaint would be that it was more or less exactly what I was expecting from the trailer.
The acting was great. Bale and Crowe were excellent as usual. Foster really stole the show as a total badass villain. Tudyk was great comic relief, though that's not to discount some very funny moments between Bale and Crowe.
Visually, it was very nice as far as I can tell, though it was kind of hard, because I came in late to a packed theater, and was forced to sit in the front row Oh, well, I guess I'll just have to go see it again or rent it when it comes out of DVD. No problems there
In all, I think that the movie is a little bit overrated, but that's not to say that it wasn't very good.

Great movie, but I have to wonder if every new western is going to feature a gay cowboy or outlaw now.
Not saying it would be a bad thing - after all, the "creepy kid" gimmick worked wonders for the horror genre.

Okay, I saw it.
In fact, I took my paternal unit. Mistake.
Paternal Unit: "What's the big deal about getting him to Yuma alive? Just shoot him."
Paternal units quite often don't enter into the spirit of the thing.
Anyway: very fine movie, beautiful looking--looked it was shot in Alberta. Both Bale and Crowe excellent. Peter Fonda was unrecognizable, but good. Ben Foster was so flaming that he practically set the prairie afire. I did recognize Dallas Roberts as Butterfield; he played Sam Phillips in "Walk the Line."
