Just came across this guy, Jason Spooner. Really good acoustic sound. Sounds a bit like Paul Simon.

Recently, I've been listening to a lot of old Gospel and church hymns on a local Christian station, but, then, every other day or so, I have to pop in Killswitch Engage's most recent CD.

They sound like they can be a sort of goth band, but they're heavily influenced by Afro-pop and Indie. I'd recommend A-Punk or Oxford Comma.

Another group that I just came across is Goodtimes Goodtimes, with their album Glue. Highly recommended. Sounds a little like Josh Ritter.

Neurosis - Given To The Rising

Neurosis is a band that has always been recommended to me with the caveat that, "If you like Tool then you will love this band." It took me awhile but, man were those people right. I really do like Tool, but what has always bugged me about them is that on every album that have at least two songs, sometimes more, that are completely unnecessary/bad/can be done away with/just don't belong. Neurosis showed me a world where you can be a little out there, be heavy, be progressive, have incredibly deep material, great writing, great musicianship, just great all around everything and not feel the need to screw up the album with filler. Hidden Faces, Water Is Not Enough, and Origin are world changing in their levels of awesomeness. Regardless of what music you like everyone needs to check this album and this band out.

Given To The Rising

\m/ I'm glad I'm not the only one who knows about Neurosis and their crazy progressive sludge metal. That album sounds like something to form a cult around.

Right now I've been listening to Dillinger Escape Plan's Ire Works almost non-stop since I bought it. I went to see them in concert this past weekend so I took a break from their album, but right after the show I was listening to them again almost immediately after watching their manic and destructive live show. You haven't lived until you've seen Ben Weinman pull of a solo while stage diving, no I'm not kidding I wouldn't believe it if he hadn't done it a couple feet to my right. This band can pull off anything they want to and this album proves it. From the blazingly fast and heavy opener in Fix Your Face to a satire of pop in Black Bubblegum that sounds like something Faith No More would have put out in their prime to Milk Lizard which sounds like the greatest riff Slash never wrote, this is a band which ignores conventions and puts out music that cannot be categorized nor ignored by anyone serious about music. I'd recommend it highly to everyone if I thought you could handle it.

Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings - If you like Amy Winehouse's "Back To Black," you should check out the Dap-Kings, the band behind the retro Motown/Stax sound on that album. Instead of a cracked out white girl, they've got a big ol' black woman belting out some soul tunes.

Ayreon.

If you like Progressive Rock, Rock Operas, Metal, Folk or Electronica, then listen to Ayreon. It's a one man band (Arjen Lucassen writes all the music and plays everything except drums and some solos) with about 20 guests per album. All (but one) of his albums are rock operas, with a Sci-Fi story. And the music is just immense.

People he's had guesting:

Link because there are too many

I'd rank The Human Equation as one of the best albums ever, not just in Metal or Prog tongue

They tried to make her go to rehab, but she said yes, yes, yes....

Lately I've been listening to all eight of Led Zeppelin's studio albums. I had only heard the hits and never the albums from start to finish, so there has been a ton of new music for me. I love them quite a lot and really appreciate musically why they are such an important and influential rock band. Great music. I think Physical Graffiti is my favorite album so far.
