Peter Bjorn and John - Writer's Block
Tremendous album that came out of nowhere.
My Morning Jacket - Z
Perfection in musical form.

DeathStarZero posted: I've been listening to a lot of old Norwegian black metal lately. Mostly Mayhem, Burzum, and Satyricon, although I do like some Darkthrone, Emperor, and the like as well.
And then there's what I'm always listening to. Children of Bodom, Ensiferum, Turisas, Amon Amarth, Sonata Arctica... stuff like that.
PerfectCell posted: Also kind of like Scandinavian Black Metal, some of it is really great stuff. Celtic Frost may be from Switzerland, but their style was taken from the core of Norwegian Black Metal and really helped to create what we know as Black metal in general today. If you don't like Celtic Frost then I don't like you, simple as that.
Why aren't you two in the Metaltropolis?
As for me, I've been getting owned hard by East Asian stuff at the moment. Little breakdown:
ALI PROJECT (hard to describe. Japanese GothLoli Ambient Darkwave Prog? Quite cool, anyway)
Anthelion (Taiwanese Symphonic Black Metal)
Boris (Japanaese drone/doom/prog/ambient/darkwave/weird metal. Pointless trying to categorise them, they move before you realise it)
Chthonic (Taiwanese Oriental Symphonic Black Metal. Different from Anthelion in that Chthonic use the Erhu, a Chinese traditional instrument, for a lot of their melodies)
Gallhammer (Japanese crust punk/black metal. Hellhammer/Celtic Frost worship. Somewhat odd because all three of them are girls)
Galneryus (Japanese Neoclassical/Power Metal. Were neoclassical, moved into more traditional Power Metal recently. Far better when they sing in Japanese than English though)
Kadenzza (Japanese "Orchestral Kamikaze". Awesome Epic Black Metal)
Kinniku Shoujo-tai (Japanese hard rock/heavy metal with visual kei flare. Described as eroguro (erotic grotesque). Slightly weird, but awesome)
Mad Capsule Markets (Japanese weird-as-hell digital hardcore)
Meza Virs (Singaporean Gothic/Black Metal. Hell of a lot better than most Gothic Metal these days)
Sigh (Japanese Metal. Started off Black Metal, went a bit proggy, then started incorporating classic rock, then went insane and added reggae, funk and avant-garde, then added jazz and more insanity, then decided to abandon that route and mix German thrash with Bombastic German Classical. Interesting listen...)
Links:
Ali Project - Ako to Kuro (Red and Black)
Anthelion - The Tome of Broken Souls
Boris - My Neighbour Satan
Chthonic - Onset of Tragedy (live video of their best song, because the studio version sucks)
Gallhammer - At The Onset Of The Age Of Despair
Galneryus - Silent Revelation (one of the neoclassical ones)
Kadenzza - Mononoke
Kinniku Shoujo-tai - Dame Ningen (Failure of a Human Being)
Mad Capsule Markets - Scary
Meza Virs - Tragic Vendetta (their only music vid, a shame, as Crestfallen is a far superior song)
Sigh - Midnight Sun
Also, Kanon Wakeshima's "Still Doll" is the best Anime ED in a while

Ah, yea, the Conchords are awesome. The Bowie Song's my favourite, although the live versions of Robot and Albi the Racist Dragon are also brilliant

Been listening to a lot of things lately. Depends on my mood. I've been on a Grateful Dead kick when I got Dick's Pick #4 ; Feb 14 1970- 3 discs live but disc 2 only has 2 songs @ 30 mins each. Just pure music to mellow out with.
I found 2 bands that I can't get out of my mind or my cd player.
If you like progressive in the vein of early Genesis, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, there is a British band called Porcupine Tree that is a meld of all and they are out of this world. Unconventional trip music in their early stage in the 90's and lately the've developed a harder edge relative to TOOL.
Another band that I discovered a while ago is a Seattle band that is so far away from the "Seattle" sound. They're actually a far cry from any other sound you will ever hear. Sky Cries Mary. They also are trippy but they also have tribal rhythms, hip-hop, folk, rock...actually, SCM are just indescribable. They created their own catagory. No two songs sound the same!

At the moment, I'm listening to "Tubthumping" by Chumbawamba. It's kinda quirky, but its cool.

That's an old one. Good drinking song.
A couple artists lately:
AM - Sounds a little like Cary Brothers and Chris Stills, both good artists.
Oren Lavie - Out of Isreal, has a fantastic voice and style.
And, I'm seeing Jose Gonzalez tonight. If you haven't listened to him yet, do so.

The new Death Cab album is pretty good - not as good as "Plans" but still better than most of the stuff that`s around just now.
Anyone here listen to Pendulum, a drum`n bass outfit from Australia? Their new album is SERIOUSLY awesome.
