Christian Bale is in negotiations to join Johnny Depp in Michael Mann's upcoming "Public Enemies."
According to a person familiar with the situation, Bale will play Melvin Purvis, the legendary FBI agent who led the manhunt for John Dillinger. Depp is starring as Dillinger in the pic, which is set up at Universal and is slated to begin production in March (Daily Variety, Dec. 6).
Mann is producing via his Forward Pass banner, with Kevin Misher and his Misher Films. Jane Rosenthal of Tribeca is exec producing.
Bale and Depp!?

All IMDb has it for is a 2009 release. Bale also has Killing Pablo lined up for next year with Javier Bardem. 2009 is gonna be a good year for him.
Edit: Also, I have some casting ideas. For Pretty Boy Floyd, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and for Baby Face Nelson, Edward Norton. Could we handle such a cast in one movie? We fanboys would finally get our Bale/Norton collab, but with Michael Mann and Philip Seymour Hoffman involved, I might overdose in nerdgasms.

Bale and Depp together in one movie? Gee, I wonder what the opening weekend will be like for that one?

While I will likely be kicked off the internet for this, I never got what the big deal about either Bale or Depp was. I give each actor respect for what they do but some people see to bow in worship, and I have yet to see a performance by either of them thats worth all this gushing love.
That said I am intrigued by this project, albeit because of Mann more than anything else but still intrigued...

QFT. Hoffman, Depp, Bale and Norton starring in a Michael Mann gangster movie would be many, many, MANY different kinds of awesome.

There was a story about how this might be filmed right here in Wisconsin. If true that will be very cool. Depp is always good. And Bale is working at the top of his game. In fact I'd say he's doing better work than either Damon or DiCaprio right now.
