I agree that he's great up until that scene, when something goes seriously amiss.
Next: THE MOVIE: Jerry Maguire (1996)
THE SCENE: The hard-hearted sports agent (Tom Cruise) drops his emotional armor and declares his love for Dorothy (Renée Zellweger) in front of all of her friends.
THE LINE: ''You complete me.''
I dunno that I agree with this, though I understand the reasoning behind it. Perhaps he is unlikely to say something like this in his best moment? But I rather liked this movie, despite the face that I hate Cruise.

Worst lines? Wow this was one of the most quoted movies of the 90's. I guess they are silly at times but for some reason a lot of them have become iconic.
I think that particular line is good for the scene, the whole plot of the movie is Maguire dealing with his feelings, that is something an unsure romantic would say

However, Ian does handle the "bad guy dialogue" excellently- I can't imagine anyone else (except maybe Frank Langella) giving a better delivery of "POWAHHH! UNNNN-LIM-AH-TED POWWWWWAHHHHHH!".

And it was a repeat of what the deaf guy signs to his girlfriend in the elevator which Renee Zelweiger's character translates for Jerry. It's a touching moment which brings them back to the beginning of their relationship.
I liked this line.

I don't get why this one is on the list - Tom Cruise's delivery is so honest an heartfelt, so even if the line is bad (it's just mediocre, not terrible), Cruise completely sells the emotion behind it.

The2ndQuest posted: I wouldn't say Lucas hung himself with the script completely- it's really just 2 or 3 scenes that fail to accomplish what they should have, but unfortunately they are rather key character scenes a good portion of the film is based on, so the effect ripples out more than it normally would.
Otherwise, AOTC really isn't a bad script (likewise with ROTS)- it just needed another pass or some touch-ups to smooth the rough edges. Unfortunately it didn't get that and just ended up giving the audience splinters.
AotC really is a bad script. Not only is much of the dialogue terrible, even for pros like Ewan McGregor who I can barely believe is the same actor I watched in Trainspotting, but the "mystery assassin" plot is beyond crap with such great lines as "No master, [the Kaminoans] appear to have no motive". Ummm. No. Padme was strongly against the creation of an Army of the Republic and I'm pretty sure the loss of billions of credits is motive in most anyone's book. Dooku on the other hand had no visible motives until we learn he is courting Gunray. Which Padme doesn't know and makes her early claims wild and rather silly speculation as Dooku killing her would be about as intelligent as the South assassinating a hypothetical senator from New York who didn't support the North when it was about to react to succession in 1860. It actually is the most mind bending mystery I've ever watched because all the main characters have a mysterious clairvoyance which supersedes all logical thought. Again apparently none of GL's producers had the stones to tell him this.

I agree Padme's accusation doesn't make much sense.

I find it incredibly ironic that in one thread there's a discussion of how Jerry Maguire is one of the best screenplays, yet in this thread the same film is being discussed for bad dialogue.
This is why critics of any art form should not be taken seriously.

I am a sucker for the line, but then again, we do live in a more cynical culture that, to some extent, has given up on truly loving someone.

THE MOVIE: Ever After (1998)
THE SCENE: Danielle (Drew Barrymore) — the purported inspiration for Cinderella — is trying to explain to, of all people, Leonardo da Vinci (Patrick Godfrey) why her romance is impossible.
THE LINE: ''A bird may love a fish, signore, but where will they live?''
I don't know about this one, either. I've heard far worse.
