"Johnny Depp is another old-time detective in the Hughes brothers' crimson-drenched adaptation of Alan Moore's graphic novel. In pursuit of Jack the Ripper, Depp's Scotland Yard constable uncovers a scandal that could bring down the whole British Empire. His reward: heartbreak, madness, and premonitions of a century's worth of violence and depravity."

I haven't seen this and would like to.

It's rubbish and a disgrace to Alan Moore's incredible graphic novel. The writers completely missed many of Alan Moore's key points and ideas to the point that even Johnny Depp couldn't convince me to rewatch it. Skip it and read the novel which is only $20 despite being well over twice the length of most graphic novels.

Yeah, the movie was pretty big dissapointment.

"Tim Burton ingeniously transforms Washington Irving's classic horror story into an 18th-century detective tale. Johnny Depp shines as the proto-CSI investigator who learns that there's more to the series of eerie decapitations he's probing than science and reason can explain."

I love this movie, mostly for Depp and Ricci, who are peculiarly well-suited as a screen couple, and its wonderful look like a Goth murder-mystery.

This one was good- and Ray Park as the headless horseman (not to mention Christopher Walken as the headed horseman) was cool too.

Next: "Zero Effect" (1999)

"Daryl Zero (Bill Pullman) may be the most brilliant private eye since Sherlock Holmes, but he's also a hopeless, reclusive mess of a human being, relying on perpetually exasperated assistant Steve Arlo (Ben Stiller) for most of his legwork. In this clever comic thriller, Zero is drawn out of his shell by an unlikely femme fatale (an EMT played by Kim Dickens) and discovers that he's not smart enough to avoid breaking the oldest rule in the Movie Detective's Handbook: Never fall in love with the suspect."

Never seen this one at all. Ze list.

I remember the movie being a lot of fun, but haven't seen it in years?

This movie was BEYOND brilliant. One of the smartest crime/caper films since Sneakers, though it lacks some of the "fun" of the latter. But Pullman and Stiller are awesome...

I've seen it twice, and I thought it was better second time around. It took at least half an hour to recognise that it was a modern updating of Sherlock Holmes (for Holmes' mastery of the violin, we had Zero's frantic, and ridiculous, guitar playing).

Next: "L.A. Confidential" (1997)

"As in the fable about the blind man and the elephant, it sometimes takes several detectives (cops Russell Crowe, Kevin Spacey, and Guy Pearce), all independently investigating different crimes, to grasp the full measure of a citywide corruption scandal of Chinatown-like proportions. This crackling James Ellroy adaptation makes 1950s-era Hollywood sleaze seem a lot more colorful and glamorous than the contemporary version."

Seen this and it's very good, especially the cast--other than the only Oscar winner, that is.

Great film, and one that had the misfortune of being native to the same year as Titanic. Without the boat, it was destined to sweep up a lot of Oscars.

I've just rewatched LA Confidential and Sleepy Hollow in the last week or so, and both of them are very good. LAC is one of my favourite crime films, actually.

I love LAC, one of my favorite movies. Brilliant acting all around, great twists in the plot.

I just finished watching this movie.

How they hell did Kim Basinger win an Oscar for this? She hardly did anything. She just stood around and looked attractive and got slapped around a little by Crowe.
