This is a mini-series based on David McCullough's biography of the second president of the USA (he was also the father of the sixth President). Don't have HBO, so I can't see it, but I wish I could.

Here's the cast:

Paul Giamatti ... John Adams
Laura Linney ... Abigail Adams
David Morse ... George Washington
Clancy O'Connor ... Edward Rutledge
Sarah Polley ... Abigail 'Nabby' Adams
Rufus Sewell ... Alexander Hamilton
Justin Theroux ... John Hancock
Tom Wilkinson ... Benjamin Franklin
Danny Huston ... Samuel Adams
Austin Blankenship ... Redcoat Defendant #5 Boston Massacre
Stephen Dillane ... Thomas Jefferson
Landon Ashworth ... The Senator
Jose L. Penaranda ... Congressman / Sailor / Townsman

Not sure Giamatti would be my choice as Adams, but I couldn't say for sure. Anyone seen this?

I haven't seen it. I've only heard about it. It looks good though. I want to see it.

EDIT: Its produced by Tom Hanks. I need to own this.

U.S. Post Offices right now are filled with promotional material right now for this: posters, exhibits, cardboard displays.

I've never seen Giamattic bad in anything...from Planet of the Apes even that awful film Shyamalan did awhile back. He was great in THE ILLUSIONIST. I'll probably have to catch this on DVD, I don't get HBO.

It will be out on DVD long before then, I think.

I'm just going to wait until it's on DVD. I decided a long time ago that premium movie channels just weren't worth it, I hardly ever watched them when I had them.

I just loaned my copy of the book (unread) to my mom.

And I don't have HBO, so it looks like I'm out of luck for a little while. tongue

Looks good though.

Genius casting, especially Tom Wilkinson as Ben Franklin. Good to see Rufus Sewell in there as well.

David Morse as George Washington

I HATE David Morse. I. HATE. HIM.

I don't know why, but it's for no logical reason. He just bothers me. So it will be interesting to see him as George Washington. Is there a character harder for an American to hate than George Washington? That's like hating Santa Clause.

EW Review:

8PM-9:10PM HBO Miniseries Premiere

"John Adams" A-

"Paul Giamatti, Laura Linney, and Tom Wilkinson star in a seven-part miniseries based on David McCullough's Pulitzer Prize-winning historical biography. Exec-produced by Tom Hanks, the weekly, hour-long segments explore Adams' pivotal role as a founding father on the path to becoming the nation's second President. Think that learning about one of America's most dynamic leaders is only for audiences of history buffs? Think again."
