I watched it all last week, and enjoyed it a great deal. It takes a lot of guts, I suppose, to make a miniseries on one of the lesser-known Founding Fathers, but I think it offers a lot of things we wouldn't get if it was a miniseries focused on one of the more famous ones - Jefferson, Washington or Franklin for example.

It was also a breathtaking recreation of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. You can see the bonus documentary that explains how they blended the digital effects with a few practical sets that were built specifically for the movie, to make it look fairly authentic.

I think Giamatti was good, but I was also captivated by David Morse's portrayal of Gen. Washington and Stephen Dillane's Thomas Jefferson. And of course Laura Linney gave one of her greatest performances here, I think.

You must be pleased then that they all have Emmy Nominations.

John Adams has quite a bit in fact. Looks like a lot of people enjoyed it.

I picked it up and started watching it. I'd seen the first two episodes, and I'm midway through the third one so far. Very good stuff.

Agreed. I finished watching it a few days ago. Very excellent piece of television.

Well, Emmy nominations don't really affect my enjoyment of the series. Maybe for the cast and crew, it will be the icing on the cake, especially if they win.

I won't think any less of the miniseries if it didn't win anything. I've actually reserved the book from the local library and hope to read it sometime this summer.

How'd it do?

I actually haven't finished it yet. Too much has been taking up my time.

I read the recent Adams biography, and I thought it was fine. It was certainly better than the last Benjamin Franklin biography I read.

The series is based off of a book by David McCullough, who's one of the best popular historians out there. I haven't finished the book, but it's pretty good.

As far as TV goes - this is a TV show, so there are some liberties taken, and I NEVER look at a TV show as something as a historical piece. That being said, it's done by HBO, and they do a stunning job with their miniseries.
