It could be good. I found the original movie rather dry, but I'm sure the new adaptation will breathe more life into the characters. On the casting front, I'm not a big fan of Benjamin Brat, but Andre Braugher and Daniel Dae Kim are cool... this one could go either way for me.

This should be cool. I loved the novel and I liked the original film.

Agreed. Its been a long time since I last read the book, but if Ridley Scott is involved in any way, then I'm sold. I love Michael Chrichton, so I will DEFINETLY watch this.

The Andromeda Strain is one of the few Chrichton novels that I don't own yet. I'll have to fix that sooner or later.

I will admit that I have never read a Crichton novel. I s his writing style good, or is it mainly his ideas that stand out?

It's a combination of both in my opinion. I enjoy his writing style in most of his novels, and his ideas can pretty cool for the most part.

I've just read a bad review of new The Andromeda Strain mini-series.
"Tense moments are sadly so minimal they fail to keep your attention engaged for the overlong running time." - Sky Movies magazine
Ouch!
Still, I don't always agree with the critics.

Im a fan of his, too, although his more recent books (Prey, State of Fear, Next) were pretty lackluster, IMO. His last really good book was Timeline.

I thought Prey was pretty cool after my second reading of it. I have Next, but haven't read it yet. I do agree about State of Fear being lackluster. Airframe was pretty lackluster too, imo.

Prey sucked. I think Crichton ran out of ideas and went with the Terminal Man and Jurassic Park. I haven't bothered to read State of Fear or Next. Honestly, I think Crichton's writing is going downhill. His earlier books were fantastic. Terminal Man, Andromeda Strain, JP, Timeline, all either really good or fun reads. After Timeline, eh.

What was so great about Crichton's books is that they made science accessible, fun, and even exciting. In his more recent books, however, it seems like he is in over his head with much of the science that he's trying to write about, and he's lost his ability to create interesting, compelling characters. His goal seems to have shifted from "writing stories about interesting characters within a scientific or science fiction setting" to "writing about science or politics with an occassional character included to advance the story/essay."

Because there are no story-book romances, no fairy-tale endings. So before you run out and change the world, ask yourself, "What do you really want?" Because life... is not a movie. Everyone lies. Good guys lose. And love... does not conquer all.

Crichton's books are not about writing; he's a rotten stylist. His ideas are generally interesting, though.
