The Battle of the Pelennor Fields is one of the greatest battles ever put on film. Except for the deus ex machina climax, the battle is the highlight of ROTK, and possibly the entire trilogy.

The Battle of Pelennor Fields is the silliest battle I have seen in any film ever. Ridiculous.

Go to the PT boards. They can tell you all about a couple of movies with even more absurd battles.

I can't really say which of the the three LOTR I like best. Ienjoy them all, but find each to have very significant flaws. For me FOTR is probably saved by the last 15-20 minutes, but also has my least favorite scenes from the Trilogy (the council of Elrond is vomitously bad, as is the rock surfing in Moria). TTT has some great parts, but that side door Aragorn and Gimli sneak out of still leavings me scratching my head in disbelief, and I don't like the Frodo iat Osgiliath part, just oo big of a departure from the books. ROTK is probably my favorite of the three, barely, with only two big flaws, imo: 1. Gandalf's staff being broken by the Witch King (the scene is only in the EE, but results in Gandalf being staffless the rest of the movie in both versions), and 2. The scene where Frodo wakes up after destroying the ring, with each member of the Fellowship walking in in super-slo-mo -- rivals the council of Elrond in utterly vomitous cheesiness.

"The Mummy Returns"

Granted, the first one is by no means a masterpiece. Then again it doesn't pretend to be. This film is just a high adrenaline action/comedy popcorn flick. Both of the films are very underrated in my book.

I was both bored and irritated by the first Mummy film, so The Mummy Returns came as a big surprise - I love this film. Big, stupid, and above all, fun, the characters that irritated me in the original I loved in this. Everyone had great chemistry, and I found the film fast paced and entertaining throughout. My only gripe is the crappy CG on the Scorpion King.

I had the same reaction so I never got far enough to give the sequel a chance.

As for the LOTR debate I am shocked at the number of people showing love for TTT because beyond Helms Deep (and the events surrounding it of course), I thought it was the dullest and least interesting of the series. FOTR was great from beginning to end and the pay off of so many stories made ROTK so fun to watch. So I have a hard time deciding which one I love more. All I know is that I only watch TTT when I have to. tongue

Exactly- it's a fun, dumb movie that improves upon the first movie in almost every way. Combined with a farrrr superior score that drove up the adventure feel considerably, and this one was just so fun, in no small part due to annoying characters like the brother in law and (to a degree) Evy becoming much more interesting, actually funny and actually given something to do.

Other parts, like the worthless old pilot character, were replaced with newer, funnier, characters to serve the same role. And don't forget the creepy and amusing pygmy mummies (and I think everyone has a friend that they thought "if they were a pygmy mummy- they'd be that pygmy mummy" after a certain moment happens grin ).

And the cooler parts, like the Desert Jedi..er..Medji, were expanded into greater roles as well.

"That was my first bus ride."

However, the Scorpion King CGI at the end was bad and kinda felt tacked-on (however, I felt the prologue with him was quite epic).

The first movie couldn't decide if it wanted to be fully campy or an Indiana Jones clone, and so it was absolutely awful at balancing it's camp factor with the humor and drama. Add to that the annoying characters and non-impact score, and it just added up to a "meh" movie that I really wanted to like, unfortunately. Strangely enough, the flashbcks and such in the sequel actually improves the first film's story somewhat.

^^I agree. I saw the 2nd Mummy first, so when I went into the 1st one, I was like "what the hell? This sucks."

Mummy Returns is just alot of fun-evil villains, dumb sidekicks, secretive religious sects with machine guns and swords, and jackal soldiers. tongue

I find the original far superior to the sequel. The original I can watch, though it bores me. The sequel I cannot sit through.

Really? Why?

The original did have some nicely horrific moments, like when the Mummy takes the dude's eyes. tongue

Yeah, I will say that the first movie still tried to vaguely be a horror film- but the horror had little impact due to the poor camp balance. They wisely decided to abandon that amongst the other nonfunctional components when they made the sequel. Choosing a tone to go with worked much more effectively than trying to juggle four uncompatible ones.

I liked the first one a lot, but as I said earlier, the sequel is better.
