The only thing that ROTJ can take credit is the Space Battle scene
especailly the scene where the DSII starts zipping rebel ships out of the stars.
That was something and the DSII chase tell me which space battlescene can equate to that
Of cause now the Starfighter vs Starfighter fight in the space battle is not intense as it once was. Blame that on B5 and BSG.

Also has some of the worst scenes, with Luke's reveal to Leia of their kinship a strong contender for worst in the entire OT.
Despite what the internet tells me, I love that scene. It's well-written and well-acted, and we really see how challenging and complex Luke's problems are, and how he's struggling to deal with everything. He's maturing. And I like the way the tension is broken afterward with Han walking up and saying "Hey, what's going on?" That's great. Perfect chord change.

RotJ is quite a tricky film to judge....idk, as a kid RotJ was always my favorite, and the Ewoks didn't seem as cheesy, but in retrospect its the weakest link in the trilogy.
Including everyone's favorite teddy bears, RotJ has a couple of unfortunate missteps. Slow start, and when we finally get going the film halts for snooze fest of Dagobah scenes and the less-than-exciting Endor adventures. Another, Death Star seemed kinda weak and I would have preferred the original planned Coruscaunt location instead.

No, that's a horrible scene in comparison to what had taken place in the OT.
However, the level of acting here ends up being heads and shoulders above what would come in the PT.

ROTJ should not even be up for discussion in a thread about movies that "surpass their predecessors". Does anyone here actually feel that way? It's a good movie compared to other fantasy/action-adventure movies, but compared to 'ANH' and ESB, it's a bit thin and tired. There are some amazing scenes in it, though, and the SPFX are topnotch.

I'm just taking movies from a list of the top 25 best sequels. And now we are discussing whether they are better than the originals or not.

Fair enough. I think we have yet to hear from anyone who actually thinks ROTJ surpasses its predecessors. Not that such people don't exist, as I've talked to a few, but they seem to be in the minority, which to my mind rather contradicts the idea of including the movie on such a list. /shrug/

20. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
After 10 'Star Treks,' they all start to seem the same -- with the exception of this character-driven classic, in which Kirk's brooding, Khan's evil glee (no one overacts like Ricardo Montalban) and Spock's noble death make for a sci-fi action flick with the pathos of a Greek tragedy. KHAAAAN!

Wrath of Khan definitely surpassed the first trek film.

It wouldn't have been terribly difficult. Only 5 & 9 are harder to watch than 1.

It would be my vote as the best of the movies, and the reason is that it's character-driven, as the blurb said.

Definitely the best of the original cast films (closely followed by The Undiscovered Country) and was only equalled with First Contact. There really isn't anything to fault this film for: Great acting? Check. Great story? Check. Amazing score? Check. Fantastic space battles? Check. I honestly cannot think of a flaw in it.

I put I and II pretty close. II's a little ahead because of the battle in the Mutara Nebula and Spock's death.
