"Terminator 2: Judgement Day"

The first one is a sci-fi classic. The second one is a sci-fi masterpiece. Conceptually, this movie should not have worked: Arnold is the good guy, the main character is a 13 year old, the villian is liquid metal, but it does just that, works. It takes elements from the first film, a machine going back in time to change the future, but adds a new angle when the protagonists decide to destroy Skynet and prevent Judgement Day. This is Cameron's best movie and one of the best sci-fi movies ever made.

lolwut?

I've said it before in other threads here, but Termiantor 2 is a masterpiece, and was incredibly influential to me as both a person and film fan. The tension, the music, the heart, even the humor, all build and release perfectly, not to mention the spectacular action sequences and groundbreaking T-1000 effects. It may have lacked the grit and horror of the original, but it became it's own awesome beast.

T2 is also Arnold's best performance. James Cameron really knew how to get it out of him.

"No. There is one more chip." That line is delivered so perfectly, and his performance at the end is so nuanced. By then, he's playing a robot that wants to be human.

"I know now why you cry. But it is something I can never do."

Yep, it's one of my favourite movies.

By the way, I didn't really watch the TV show....what's the consensus on it?

Better than T3, not as good as T1 or T2. Definitely feels more like a followup to T2, though it is doing it's own thing. The pilot is weak (it's basically "T2 Lite") but the series gets better as it goes along, and introduces some great elements.

Agreed. I wouldn't put it on the same level as the first two films, but if you're a Terminator fan, its definetly worth your time.

Personally i LOVE T2... to date, it's my favorite out of the 3 Terminator movies grin

For me, i guess what nailed it for me is the fact that i was expecting Arnold to be the bad guy again (of course, i had gone to this totally unspoiled), and then when i realized he was the good guy, i just thought it was the coolest thing ever laugh

The effects were great, and that T-1000 was a real menace, he couldnt have been played any better than that imo applause Sarah Connor went from scared and clueless in the first one, to a warrior and a bad@ss cool

Yeah, T2 is one of my favorite movies of all time.

I'll take the Terminator series over Star Wars any day.

I completely disagree with the premise that T2 is a better movie than Terminator.

I'm with EBB on this one. The Terminator and T2 are two very different movies, and that's one of the reasons why I think T2 was so highly thought of - it didn't try to be the first movie only bigger. The Terminator was a romantic thriller, while T2 cut out any attempt at romance and instead was a huge crowd-pleasing action movie, complete with huge set-pieces and comedic moments.

T2 is far from perfect - the liquid metal terminator should not be able to travel through time as it breaks the rules established in the first film, and the bit at the end where it tries to force Sarah Connor to call out to John is just silly, as it had already been established that the terminators could mimic specific human voices.

I generally prefer the original Terminator, which is smaller and more emotional, but I think that T2 is good at doing what it does. That doesn't make it a better film, though.
