A horror-writer friend of mine once spliced the first two movies together with edited ED1 scenes in B & W. At the end of film 1, when the evil takes Ash, this version cuts to color footage from 2 of Ash flying through the trees. It's surprisingly effective.

13. Toy Story 2

It's Pixar's only sequel -- Disney reportedly pressured the studio to do it, since the first 'Story' was so successful. Good thing: Jessie's song about her owner growing up and moving on still makes us tear up; the riff on the iconic "I am your father" scene is a welcome blast from our movie past.

I know i'm about the only person on earth who feels this way, but i thought Toy Story 2 was inferior to the original. It was merely "ok". I find the whole Prospector/Woody's pals stuff really dull.

Definitely better than the original. I know I've said it a lot, but Toy Story 1 was just a rip-off of the superior Jim Henson's A Christmas Toy. Toy Story 2 managed to turn things around and add an interesting spin to things that really helped it overcome that, though.

Absolutely not. Toy Story 2 is a superior film, and is still Pixar's best work so far. It's a virtuoso performance all around, and a textbook example of great filmmaking on every level.

Glad to hear that someone else is aware of Jim Henson's "The Christmas Toy". Still, even being a ripoff i still enjoy "Toy Story" more then "Toy Story 2"...

12. Dawn of the Dead

George A. Romero's 1978 follow-up to the cult classic 'Night of the Living Dead' came out 10 years later than the original -- and it shows. Still as repulsively, squirm-inducingly graphic (in a good way) as the black-and-white 'Night,' the zombie feast that is 'Dawn' is in color. Bright red, mostly.

Now we're getting somewhere. The major achievement of Dawn of the Dead is that you care about the characters. It hurts when Roger turns. You feel for Francine when you find out she's pregnant. Ken Foray is a bad*** whom you want to see win, and Stephen is there to anchor all the rest: it's a shock and a blow to see him turn, and lead the zoms straight to the heroes' hideout, ending in their destruction. DotD is a different kind of horror movie, and was even moreso at the time of its original release. It's fun, funny, adventurous, and damn unsettling. The vicarious thrill we get watching the protagonists inhabit a mall -- sampling all the luxuries and resplendence it has to offer -- is undermined by the certain knowledge that all of it is empty, devoid of meaning except perhaps a fleeting joy, and ultimately doomed by the inexorable force of mindless dead clawing to get in and tear it all apart.

Actually the blood is kind of orange in DotD. It's the one thing I hate about the film.

But yes, an excellent horror film with an underlying message about the hollowness of consumer culture made before bashing the mall was cool. I agree with everything Vort said.

See, i have the same problem here as i did with the Evil Dead selection:

Both Night and Dawn are such landmarks of horror that i find i have trouble choosing between the two.

Dawn is a more mature film, for sure, but Night is just alot more fun.

I agree that Night and Dawn are very close, but I will always give the slight edge to Dawn. An outstanding movie in every way.

11. Kill Bill Vol. II

'Vol. 1' is amazing, but 'Vol. 2' features the Bride's (Uma Thurman) eyeball-squishing battle royale with Elle Driver (best catfight EVER) and her much-anticipated showdown with Bill, complete with the execution of the legendary five-point palm exploding-heart technique. Has there ever been a more badass heroine?

I've only seen a little of the first one. Didn't like it. I'm not a big fan of Tarantino.
