I've got the opposite problem; I've only seen 2, which I quite enjoyed.

It's hard to say which one I prefer- the first one is a bit more fun and light-though-bloody-hearted. The second is more dramatic, more character-centric. Carradine rules regardless.

I definitely think Vol. 2 is better then Vol. 1, but I can't really bring myself to call it a sequel. Kill Bill was shot as one movie, and then only later split up into two volumes. It's all one masterpiece as far as I'm concerned.

I just rewatched them about a week ago and it is hard to separate the two in terms of story, esp. given Tarantino's non-linear storytelling method, but they are very different stylistically. Volume one is mostly based on Japanese cinema and anime with swordfights while Vol. 2 is mostly a western with some Hong Kong cinema. One is pretty much a straight-up fun and bloody revenge flick while 2 gets deeper and shows just how well Tarantino can manipulate an audience. Case and point, when the Bride attempts to sneak up on Budd in his trailer and he blasts her with rock salt from a double-barreled shotgun. It's one of the funniest moments I've ever seen in a film. Just the idea of an honorable ninja type failing at sneaking and getting shot by a redneck after taking out half the Tokyo underworld's heavy hitters is hysterical. But two seconds later you are no longer laughing, but genuinely concerned as we see that she's in a lot of pain and in serious trouble. In two seconds Tarantino sends you from laughing to cringing without most people even realizing it. That's direction. And the final scene between Carridine and Thurman shows just how tremendous of a writer he is. 2 is definitely the better film, but it wouldn't work without 1 and 1 is more fun and an incredible film in it's own right.
On a weird side-note. Did anyone else think Bill and Budd might be a reference to the Melville short story, Billy Budd? I have no idea why Tarantino would reference that, but it does seem like an odd coincidence.

Are you implying Tarintino needs a reason?

Vol. I has what Vol. 2 is missing, and vice-versa.
I wish Tarantino would release a special edition. The current editions lack any special features...

Kill Bill VOl 2 is not a sequel, it's the second part of one story. They were filmed back to back.

It just seems like an odd thing to reference and I've been trying to look for anything that might link the two stories, but if it's there I don't see it.

I agree, and I reeeeally wish they'd release a full cut of the entire film. I know that one exists.

I love both, but since i tend to be more a fan of the Western then of the Kung-fu flick, i definitely agree that Vol.2 is better.
The part i loved was how the first film paints Bill to be this cold-hearted bastard, and then in the second film you find out that the entire issue was not so cut and dry...
The training sequence with Pai Mai....WOW.... What a way to build up to how the heck the Bride can escape being buried alive!

2 probably is the better movie but 1 is the better popcorn flick. I used to have one recorded on my DVR, and would watch it a lot.. boy did I say a lot of XXXX words when I realized I deleted it by mistake...
The final sword fight in the "snow" is very well done and a treat to watch.
The thing is with me is I rarely have the time to invest a full 2 hours watching a movie, so I end up just watching a few scenes from 1..

The Digital Bits used to have rumor tidbits on a version called "Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair" which was to have the whole story contained in a single release, with cutting-room-floor bits of violence that were snipped at the behest of American censors/MPAA. It would have had to be split up on conventional DVD, but it could probably be edited into a single, seamless film on Blu-Ray. It's been a couple of years since I last heard about this "release". Maybe 2ndQuest or John Wesley Downey know more...?

10. The Bride of Frankenstein
The 1931 original is a monster movie with heart; the '35 sequel is a love story with monsters. Though the Bride is seen for only a few moments in director James Whale's masterpiece, it's his Frankenstein's yearning for romance that carries the day ... That and his short-lived mate's electric hairdo.
