X-2 was definetly on par with Spider-Man 2. It delved into a greater crisis for mutantkind as well as personal crises of varying degrees for all those involved, well except for Magneto of course.
However, I do think that while James Marsden looks the part for Cyclops, he acts like he has a plank up his rear from the directors all the time. Granted, Scott Summers/Cyclops is supposed to be uptight, but Marsden had zero confidence radiating from him the entire time.
On the flip side, Halle Berry does a great job of developing Storm in her own way, making her a hurt angry teenager inside of an adult body with great powers, tempered by the fact that she is not the bad guy.
And can anybody really say anything bad about Hugh Jackmans work as Wolverine?

Didnt think so.

I concur. Definitely the best of the series.

Definately surpassed the first X-flick. I personally prefer it to Spider-Man 2 - although I think Spider-Man 2 was more polished.

X2 really "got" how to use it's resources and characters to tell a good story. I always cite the scene in which Rogue is sucked out of the damaged X-Jet and is saved by Nightcrawler: that wasn't just a scene to showcase some Special FX and Nightcrawler's powers, it was exciting and suspenseful.

The bar on comicbook movies just continues to be raised.

When X2 first came out, THAT became the best comicbook film i'd ever seen. Then along came Spider-man 2 which absolutely blew me away (mostly because i had thought the first one was slightly disappointing) and THAT became the greatest comicbook movie ever made..

Then Mr. Nolan punched in, and took what Singer and Raimi had done and just elevated it into another league entirely....

But yeah, X2= best X-men movie.. Easily. I would have liked to have seen what Singer would've done with the third movie.

Eh, i felt the same way about his initial "X-Men" movie.. It was okay, but i didn't like it as much as most other comicfans seemed to. It was the second movie where Singer really took off with it.

I'm willing to give him 2 movies on Superman as well before i deliver my final verdict. (Besides, Superman Returns DID have a couple of effective scenes...The shuttle rescue and the scene where he and Lois are swirling high above the city and Superman verbally bitch-slaps her come to mind..And i know it's controversial, but i liked the element of the kid.) Admittedly, the whole Lex-plot that was the climax was kind of lame, but....meh....I have faith in the next movie.

That's if Singer gets to do the next one. Last I heard WB was weary after the financial loss they took on the last one. Though there are rumours that comicbook writer Mark Millar was in pitching his own concept and has a big name producer and a big name director both interested in the project. That latter rumour could amount to nothing at all but it still intrigues me.

X2 is quite possibly the greatest superhero movie ever made, so yeah... grin

I said it was the best until I saw Batman Begins. Then I said that until I saw Batman: The Dark Knight.

Out of the Marvel movies I'd say that my top five would be:

1. Iron-Man
2. The Incredible Hulk
3. X2: X-Men United
4. DareDevil
5. X Men

8. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

While the 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' and 'Temple of Doom' had high stakes, they're dwarfed by those in 'Crusade.' The Nazis beat Indy (Harrison Ford) to the Holy Grail and gain eternal life, and we're all ******: You, me, Short Round. It's not just rollicking fun from start to finish -- it's scary, too.

The stakes in Raiders are dwarfed by the ones in Crusade? Did this guy even see Raiders?

I`ll probably be in the minority, but I always felt Last Crusade was the weakest of the original 3 Indy films, with Raiders being the best, followed by Temple of Doom.

And yes, it IS nonsense that the stakes are higher in Last Crusade.

Not only are the stakes not higher in Last Crusade, it simply isn't anywhere near as good as Raiders. Raiders is note-perfect action-adventure cinema, Last Crusade is watered-down copycat sequel cinema. Crusade is almost a parody it's so eager to make a self-referential joke. The action scenes largely lack teeth, and at least one -- the boat/propellor showdown -- is confusingly edited.

So, no -- LC does not surpass RLA.

I suspect that the predecessor here is "Temple of Doom", not "Raiders".

I've only seen TOD once, and would like to see it again before I agreed TLC was better.

I will always have a soft spot of Crusade simply because of the quirky father/son adventure. Was it a better film...that's debatable and I am sure that people have good points on all sides. But as far as I am concerned Crusade will forever be my favorite Jones adventure. Though coming back one more time for Crysal Skull was kinda fun I am really of the opinion that Crusade had the perfect ending and no more was needed to be said.

Crusade is nowhere near as good as Raiders, but, I think, better than Doom. But it's been a very long time since I've seen Doom.

They're all leaps and bounds ahead of Crystal Skull.
