I always felt that Pelennor Fields was a huge let down compared to Helms Deep.

It's the weakest book in the trilogy; as for the movies, I never got beyond the half way mark of the first film.

The Pelenor Fields, the Siege of Gondor and the Battle of the Black Gates were all amazing, especially the Rohirrim vs the Mumakil, but the Siege of Helm's Deep was a magnificently executed set-piece battle sequence. Against any other film the Battle of Geonosis would have won Ep.II the special effect Oscar, hands down, but that year Helm's Deep was able to trump even Star Wars, and more importantly, I didn't mind at all. I particularly loved Gandalf leading the Rohirrim charge down the hill into the Uruk lines. It was breath-taking.

I've always thought TTT sacrificed what was probably Tolkien's best character-writing sequence in favor of !!11!!COOL ACTION SCENES!!!

It's especially (*^&*( that you have to buy a 3.5-hour cut of the movie for Faramir to not suck.

Yeah, I've always assumed that to be the case, especially when he's able to intuit the true nature of the ring and Frodo's mission very quickly in the book. He also says very bluntly, in the book, that he wouldn't pick up the ring even if it was lying in the middle of the road.

Yep. I guess Jackson didn't grasp that the whole point of TTT was to illustrate that mankind didn't completely suck after all.

FOTR was great but TTT drove me to read the books and the only one of the three that I bought the standard version before the extended edition was released. It remains my favorite of the trilogy.

I like The Two Towers more but I think it may have to do with the fact that I never saw Fellowship of the Ring on the big screen. Which may be way I think it's a better movie. Though it's funny because when I rank the three films FOTR comes in 2nd and ROTK comes in 3rd.

Fellowship is my personal favorite and I'll repeat what I said for Kill Bill, TTT is no sequel

Two Towers is easily the weakest of the three films IMO. Many of the great moments of TTT were pushed into ROTK.

The only thing from TTT that was held over for ROTK was Cirth Ungol and Shelob.
