Does anyone else here think this movie is amazing. I think Casey Affleck does an amazing job, and the story and score are great.

Yeah I thought it was the best film I`ve seen in a while, I agree Casey Affleck gave a VERY powerful performance. Think there might be an existing thread for discussing it though, so this one might get locked

Yeah, it WAS a beautiful film. Pitt was good in a quite understated role, but the credits undoubtedly go to Affleck for his creepy intensity - I`m quite looking forward to seeing what he does next.
Best bit of the film for me by far was what happened AFTER the assassination, and the 5 minutes leading up to the killing.

I agree was the best part of the movie.
I love how Affleck slowly kinda slipped into insanity the closer he got to his goal.

It's interesting what this movie has to say about how people mythologize celebrities to the point where perception becomes very different from reality. In that sense, it's a great companion piece to Zodiac and I'm Not There.
This is easily my second favorite film of last year.

That movie was terrible!
I'm sorry but I was constantly bored throughout this film. At the end, every single person in the theater cried tears of joy (okay maybe not everyone, but the majority)
The acting wasn't terrible, but the story was bland and not enough action to hold my interest.

So, in other words, it wasn't quite superficial enough for you?
I definitely need to check this film out. I remember Rachel saying good things about it, and I see others have as well.

I'm usually wary of any western in the post-Unforgiven era, as too often hype leads to routine action shoot ‘em ups like Open Range or 3:10 to Yuma. Assassination of Jesse James is simply stunning, though. The film reaches Terrence Malick-like levels of visual poetry as moments of blunt violence prove counterpoint to beautifully framed establishing shots that paint the unspoiled open country in an almost religious light. I thought the considerable length would be a concern, but I can't remember the last time I saw an almost three hour movie where nothing seemed extraneous. Chalk this up to the documentary-like nature of plot progression that aimed to prove the supposedly quiet moments of outlaw life as anything but idle. Affleck and Pitt utterly nailed their respective characters, and as such the film succeeds in exploring identity as it relates to the individual interpretations of self and myth. Definitely one of my favorites.

If you want to see a bunch of people walking around Saskatchewan with horses in a 'Western' with very few guns. Go see this film.

Just out of curiosity, why does a western need a bunch of action to be enjoyable?

I love how this movie doesn't glorify violence. When it happens, it's clumsy, loud, and real.
