RE: Upcoming 2010 Movies: Clash of the Titans
Clash of the Titans
.
(from wiki)
Clash of the Titans is a planned 2010 film which is a remake of the 1981 film of the same name, itself based on the Greek myth of Perseus. The film is directed by Louis Leterrier and stars Sam Worthington. Filming begins in April 2009 for release on March 26, 2010.
Cast
* Sam Worthington as Perseus
* Alexa Davalos as Andromeda
* Gemma Arterton as Io
* Mads Mikkelsen as Draco, leader of the Praetorian Guard
* Liam Neeson as Zeus
* Ralph Fiennes as Hades
Production
The Clash of the Titans remake began development in 2002 under producer Adam Schroeder and writers John Glenn and Travis Wright. They wanted to drop the element of the gods playing chess. Producer Basil Iwanyk revived the project in 2006 with a rewrite by Travis Beacham, a fan of the original. Lawrence Kasdan and director Stephen Norrington signed on in 2007. But Norrington was unsure about his direction for the project, because he did not grow up with the original. Leterrier, who did, contacted Norrington through their shared agent about replacing him by June 2008. Leterrier noted the original Clash of the Titans inspired the climax of his previous film The Incredible Hulk – a battle in a burnt down courtroom with temple-like columns – and has compared modern superheroes to Greek mythology. Writers Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi reworked Kasdan's script, which had been written with an R rating in mind.
Leterrier sought Ray Harryhausen's involvement, and reunited with Hulk concept artist Aaron Sims, who had already been working on Clash of the Titans with Norrington. Sims had difficulty designing Medusa, explaining "Are they all the same snake [in her hair]? Do they look more like hair? Are they different in silhouette or in light? And how much of a human face does she have, or is it more like a snake? [...] I was working on one design, and people said 'That reminds me of Voldemort,’ because there was no nose. You have to be careful so it still looks like it's an original idea." Shooting will take place in London, Wales, Ethiopia and Iceland. Filming in May and June 2009 will take place at the Canary Islands, where Tenerife and Lanzarote were scouted. The budget is $80 million.

If these people are fans of the original, why don't they leave it alone?

Well, the original isn't a great movie by any stretch; it's just one that is remembered fondly, thanks to it being played on television about every other day. This doesn't mean the new one will be any better (probably it won't be), but actually they could really do Medusa up pretty cool, if they wanted.

I thought it was really, really bad. I mean, the special effects were interminable, overblown, and not even well done.

Well, yeah, but then, instead of fighting one T.Rex, he fights
three
of them
at once
WHILE FLYING THROUGH THE AIR!
One T. Rex on the ground
Three T. Rex in the air
Remake is better.

The original (1933) is best. The remake (with Jessica Lange & Jeff Bridges) is not bad. The Jackson one is the worst of the bunch. YMMV.

The Jackson version is definitely better than the Bridges/Lange version; I was being facetious about it being better than the original, of course.
