[Merlin's remarks in bold]

1. Clash of the Titians No! Leave this classic alone! Why screw with perfection? Aaaagghhh.
2. The two part series of Harcules. You mean Hercules? I mean, Heracles? Okay, I'm sold. I had no idea this one was in the works. Who's directing?
3. Prince of Persia I like the casting.
4. God of War No clue.
5. The two part series of Harry Potter which it should have been that way with the other movies. Big Potter fan, so yes, I'm happy Deathly Hallows is being split into two films.
6. The two part series of the Hobbit which should have been that way with the Lord of the Rings especially Return of the King because of the Scouring of the Shire. It would have been nice to see the Scouring, I agree with that. Most readers/fans don't seem to grasp that this chapter is the real climax of the novel, when the hobbits reveal their heroic selves and all that they've learned in their quest comes to fruition to save their beloved homeland from the clutches of real, immediate, very human evil in the form of greed, industry, development. However, I think this could have fit into the film as produced, with some judicious cutting of the other sequences, namely the slow-mo hug-out and bed-jumping shenanigans.
7. Robin Hood Only if it's good, of which I'm not so certain.
8. Pirates of the Carribean 4 What's the approach here? Who's in the cast? I'll believe it when I see the trailer.
9. Rumors that the Odessey might be made in the same way as 300 the movie was made so if that happens I am looking forward to seeing that made into a movie. I like the made-for-TV 1995 version with Armand Assante. A Hollywood big-budget production would be nice.
10. If Assasins Creed becomes a Movie I would love to see that made too. No idea. Hope it's good, though, whatever it is!

Robin Hood will be fine, because I know Kevin Costner has nothing to do with this version.

The absence of Kevin Costner is not an absolute guarantee of quality.

So I have to go see that one.

I dig the Costner movie; Morgan Freeman, Alan Rickman, a great Kamen score, lots of energy. It's got some great action sequences.

Forget the Costner. TCM is showing the real McCoy on Saturday. Starring Errol Flynn.

I love the Flynn version for what it is -- a swashbuckling descent into medieval dreamland -- but it's so puritanically clean (free of anything resembling dirt and free of anything resembling sex) that it lacks the sense of reality I crave in my action-adventure films. /shrug/ That's just me, though.

Prince of Thieves is easily my favorite Robin Hood movie. Love that one. I mean, it got flaming arrows(!!) and Rickman! Oh, and Kostner's good too.

About this new one: Ehh, I was sort of interested for a while when I first heard about it, but it's going away quickly.

I can't put my finger on why, but I'm pretty disappointed in the cast for this one---which is weird because I really like Cate. I guess it's because the cast implies to me (I hope wrongly) that this is going to another one of those heavy "this is what it would REALLY have been like" epics we've been inundated with lately. I love the Robin Hood legend so I was excited when I read the thread title...but I guess I was hoping for a more light-hearted adventure. Maybe I am off-base with my reading here?

I think your reading is more or less correct. Crowe can do anything (so can Blanchett, I suppose, given that she's now played Bob Dylan), but neither of them are really given to appearing in things that would be termed 'light-hearted.'

Crystal Skull was relatively light-hearted fare for Blanchett. Her character was dark-ish, but the movie itself is swashbuckling action-adventure.

In Crystal Skull I felt her seriousness was a big contrast to the rest of the cast, in Robin Hood it seems to only be serious types.
