I have never seen such a complex level of storytelling in any comic I've ever read before...I hope they can catch that some complexity in this film.

Monsters vs. Aliens

(from wiki)

Susan, shown with Dr. Cockroach on her shoulder, the giant Insectosaurus, The Missing Link and B.O.B.

Monsters vs. Aliens is a computer-animated 3-D feature film scheduled for a March 27, 2009 release from DreamWorks Animation. The release date was moved up to prevent competition with James Cameron's upcoming Avatar.[1] This will be the first computer animated movie which will be produced in real 3-D instead of converting the film into 3-D after it is finished, which will add $15 million extra to the film's budget.[2]

Monsters vs. Aliens is starring the voices of Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, Hugh Laurie, Seth Rogen, Will Arnett, Rainn Wilson with Stephen Colbert and Kiefer Sutherland.

Plot

When California girl Susan Murphy (voiced by Reese Witherspoon) is unexpectedly clobbered by a meteor full of outer space gunk on her wedding day, she mysteriously grows to 49-feet-11-inches tall (An inch short of being 50 feet tall, a joke on Attack of the 50 Foot Woman) and is instantly labeled a "monster" named Ginormica. The military jumps into action, and she is captured and held in a secret government compound. The world learns that the military has been quietly rounding up other monsters over the years. This ragtag group consists of the brilliant but insect-headed Dr. Cockroach, Ph.D. (voiced by Hugh Laurie); the macho half-ape, half-fish The Missing Link (voiced by Will Arnett); the gelatinous and indestructible B.O.B. (voiced by Seth Rogen); and the 350-foot grub called Insectosaurus. Their confinement time is cut short however, when a mysterious alien robot named Gallaxhar (voiced by Rainn Wilson) lands on Earth and begins storming the country.

As a last resort, under the guidance of General W.R. Monger (voiced by Kiefer Sutherland), on a desperate order from The President (voiced by Stephen Colbert), the motley crew of Monsters is called into action to combat the aliens and save the world from imminent destruction.

Cast

* Reese Witherspoon as Susan Murphy / Ginormica
* Paul Rudd as Derek
* Hugh Laurie as Dr. Cockroach, Ph.D.
* Will Arnett as The Missing Link
* Seth Rogen as B.O.B.
* Kiefer Sutherland as Gen. W.R. Monger
* Stephen Colbert as The President
* Rainn Wilson as Gallaxhar

Format

As of Monsters vs. Aliens, all films released by DreamWorks Animation will be released in a stereoscopic 3-D format.

That sounds like the best, most wildly entertaining CG animated movie since The Incredibles. They had me at "Ginormica".

The Informant.

(from wiki)

The Informant is an upcoming dark comedy thriller film, directed by Steven Soderbergh, and based on the 2000 nonfiction book, The Informant, by journalist Kurt Eichenwald. The script was written by Scott Z. Burns and the film stars Matt Damon, Scott Bakula, and Joel McHale.

Plot

The Informant is the upcoming tale of an Ivy League Ph.D. known as Mark Whitacre, played by Matt Damon. Whitacre was a rising star at Decatur’s Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) in the early 1990s who wound up blowing the whistle on the company’s price-fixing tactics.

One night in early November, 1992, the high-ranking ADM executive did something extraordinary when he confessed to FBI agent Brian Shepard, played by Scott Bakula, that ADM executives-including Whitacre himself-had routinely met with competitors to fix the price of lysine, a food additive. As the highest-ranked executive to ever turn whistleblower in US history, Whitacre secretly gathered hundreds of hours of video and audio over several years to present to the FBI.

In the upcoming film — a dark comedy/thriller in director Steven Soderbergh’s hands — Whitacre’s good deed dovetails with his own major infractions and struggle with bipolar disorder. In a stunning turn of events immediately following the covert portion of the case, headlines around the world reported that the whistleblower defrauded $9 million from his own company at the same period of time he was secretly working for the FBI and taping his co-workers.[3] Because of this major infraction and Whitacre’s bizarre behavior that was laced with bipolar disorder, he was sentenced to prison three times longer than the white-collar criminals he helped to nab.[3] However, ten years later (2008), the former FBI supervisor of the price fixing case, Dean Paisley (played by Allan Havey), with backing from the two other FBI agents and a former prosecutor, went public with praise about Whitacre. "Had it not been for the fraud conviction, he would be a national hero", Paisley said. "Well, he is a national hero", the former FBI supervisor stated.

Production

In 2002, after completing Ocean's Eleven, director Steven Soderbergh announced his intent to adapt the book The Informant by Kurt Eichenwald, a former journalist for the New York Times. Scott Z. Burns wrote the script based on the book.

Production began in May, 2008 in Decatur, Illinois. Most of filming will be done in Decatur, Illinois. The film will be released on March 27, 2009. Filming was also done at the Whitacre Mansion in Moweaqua,Il a small town about 25 miles from Decatur.

Cast

* Matt Damon portrays a top Archer Daniels Midland executive, Mark Whitacre, who works as an informant for the FBI. Damon joined the Green Zone in January, 2008 with the assurance that production would conclude by April 14, 2008 so he could start working on the Steven Soderbergh film, The Informant, on April 15, amidst the scheduling difficulties caused by 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike. Damon gained 20-30 pounds for the role in order to look like the doughy Whitacre.
* Scott Bakula portrays FBI agent Brian Shepard.
* Melanie Lynskey portrays Mark Whitacre's wife, Ginger.
* Thomas F. Wilson portrays Mark Cheviron.
* Joel McHale portrays FBI agent Robert Herndon.
* Allan Havey portrays FBI Supervisor Dean Paisley
* Jimmy Pardo and Paul F. Tompkins announced on episode 309 of the Never Not Funny comedy podcast that they both have unannounced parts in the film.

Assassination of a High School President.

(from wiki)

Assassination of a High School President, previously known as The Sophomore, is an American 2008 comedy film, directed by Brett Simon, written by Tim Calpin and Kevin Jakubowski, and starring Reece Thompson, Bruce Willis, Mischa Barton and Michael Rapaport. The film is set for limited release in March 2009. The film premiered at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival.

Plot

After he suspects the school president for the crime, Funke becomes one of the most popular kids at St. Donovan's High. Funke wins the respect of everyone from the Principal Kirkpatrick (Bruce Willis) to the kid that farts on him in Spanish class and Francesca takes Funke to homecoming. As Funke's popularity grows so do his suspicions. He begins to wonder if the president really stole the SATs or if he's just a pawn in a conspiracy. Determined to find the truth, Funke digs deeper and unearths the sordid underbelly of St. Donovan's. Everyone seems to play a part, including student council members, college bookies and public school brats. Actually, the film was premiered at a film festival (I can't remember which one it was) a while back, and from what I hear it was very positively received. From hearing that, and also being a fan of Barton from her days on The O.C., this might be something I'll see next year.

The Wolf Man (2009).

(from wiki)

The Wolfman is a 2009 horror film that is a remake of the 1941 classic of the same name. The remake is directed by Joe Johnston and stars Benicio del Toro. It was originally scheduled for February 13, 2009 (a Friday the 13th), but is now set for release on April 3, 2009.

Premise

Set in the late 1880s, the film keeps the plotline of the original, with Lawrence Talbot meeting his father following the death of his brother. The film details events during Lawrence's past that led to his estrangement from his father (which includes Gwen), and the setting is expanded from Blackmore (now identified as the village from the original) to London. The official synopsis states Talbot was traumatized by his mother's death as a child, while Gwen Conliffe is his brother's fiancée. Following his brother's disappearance, Talbot hunts a murderer, which turns out to be a werewolf, and the curse is passed on.

Cast

* Benicio del Toro as Lawrence Talbot, a man who is bitten by a werewolf.
* Anthony Hopkins as Sir John Talbot, Lawrence's father.
* Emily Blunt as Gwen Conliffe, whom Talbot falls in love with.
* Hugo Weaving as Detective Aberline, who investigates murders by the transformed Talbot.
* Geraldine Chaplin as Maleva, an old Gypsy.

Art Malik, Rob Dixon, Nicholas Day, Michael Cronin, David Schofield, David Sterne, Roger Frost, Dianne Pilkington and Clive Russell have also been confirmed, although their roles are not known.

Production

In March 2006, Universal Studios announced the remake of The Wolf Man with actor Benicio del Toro (a fan of the original film and collector of Wolf Man memorabilia) in the lead role. Screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker was attached to the screenplay, developing the original film's story to include additional characters as well as plot points that would take advantage of modern visual effects. In February 2007, director Mark Romanek was attached to helm The Wolf Man. The film was scheduled for a November 12, 2008 release, before being pushed back to early 2009 in September 2007.

In January 2008, Romanek left the project because of "creative differences". Brett Ratner emerged as a frontrunner to replace Romanek, but the studio also met with Frank Darabont, James Mangold and Joe Johnston. They were also interested in Bill Condon, and Martin Campbell was interested. Johnston was hired to direct on February 3, 2008, and the film's shooting schedule and budget remained as intended. Johnston hired David Self to rewrite the script.

Shooting took place from March 3 to June 23, 2008 in the United Kingdom. The film was budgeted at US $85 million. They shot at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, Chatsworth, Derbyshire, and Castle Combe in Wiltshire. They transformed Chatsworth House by adding weeds, dead grass and ivy. They also shot in Lacock in Wiltshire, a village conserved by the National Trust for Places of Historic Interest or Natural Beauty, for a day. Universal donated £5000 to the village, in return for filming in the tithe barn for a scene involving frozen corpses.

Rick Baker created the make-up for The Wolf Man. When he heard Universal was remaking the film, he eagerly pursued it, as both The Wolf Man and Frankenstein inspired him to become a make-up artist as a child. He acknowledged transforming del Toro was difficult because he is a hairy man: "Going from Benicio to Benicio as the Wolf Man isn't a really extreme difference. Like when I did An American Werewolf in London, we went from this naked man to a four-legged hound from hell, and we had a lot of room to go from the transformation and do a lot of really extreme things. Here we have Benicio del Toro, who's practically the Wolf Man already, to Benicio del Toro with more hair and bigger teeth." The make-up took three hours to apply, and one hour to remove. New pieces of latex prosthetic makeup and loose hair was applied to del Toro's face each day, while several dentures and wigs were created in case some were damaged. Baker and del Toro were adamant about the design resembling the make-up created by Jack Pierce, but Romanek went through thousands of concept art. When Johnston signed on, Baker returned to his second design, which is the finished result. Baker said the transformation will likely be computer-generated, which disappoints him as he is not being involved and therefore feels it will look unrealistic (as the animators do not have his knowledge of the design).
