Strilo posted: If they strike, then there is nothing on TV or in film. Cannot make the stuff without actors. The public does care and did care about the Writer's Strike. Just because you and some people you know might not have cared doesn't mean no one does. The AMPTP would be idiotic to let this go anywhere near a strike.
Do you think that the general public would be supportive of a second strike in such a short amount of time? For me, it would be more likely to kill interest in Hollywood than perk it. Clearly, actors are very important to movies/tv shows/and the like. I'm not sure, however, that they'll get a lot of sympathy from viewers who just lost half a season to the writers, whether a strike is warranted or not. We just got our shows back, and we're going to have to wait a couple months in addition to the summer hiatus? Not the best formula.

Exactly, I'm confident both sides will realize that a strike will be suicidal.

Yeah, but both sides realized that in the writers' strike.

And look how much money that cost Hollywood.
I'd think the association would be much quicker to get this strike resolved than the previous one. Seriously though, it's not like they didn't know that this was coming, it's been common knowledge for over a year that this strike was a realistic possibility. They should have tried to make a compromise as soon as the WGA strike ended.
And not for nothing, but just because there are a handful of actors in Hollywood that get 20 million for a film role doesn't mean that tv actors make anywhere near that for an entire season of work.

It appears the big acting names won't support a strike...

According to TV Guide , SAG has rejected the AMPTP's final offer. Which means two things will probably happen.
1) SAG will try to authorize a strike. But with AFTRA recently inking their own deal and members belonging to both unions I'm not sure how successful SAG will be.
2) with no contract with SAG, the studios could 'lockout' the actors union much like the NBA owners locked out the Basketball players in 1997 - 98. Meaning yet another season without many MANY scripted TV series and major movies.

Tell me about it. Some got fresh episodes after the Strike ended. I'm missing Heroes like crazy.

Speaking of Heroes, Im still pissed that NBC reneged on airing new episodes for the third season in August. Granted, they were only rumors, but it wouldve been a show of good faith, IMO, not to mention getting some early interest going for the show (which certainly needs it after what was a pretty terrible second 'season').

Heroes? What about 24? It will already have been a year and half when the new season is supposed to start.
I agree that another strike could be very bad for the industry.
