The director's cut of DONNIE DARKO proves that the original is an interesting film in spite of Richard Kelly, not because of him.

This is about as great of an idea as repealing the 22nd Amendment so that George Bush can run for president again.

Yikes. I wonder who's producing it. I personally know and worked for one of the EPs of the original film, but he never said a word about this in the fall and I really hope for his sake that he's not involved. I definitely would have given him an "absolutely not" had he asked tongue

"(FROM HOLLYWOOD REPORTER) – Elizabeth Berkley (Showgirls, Saved by the Bell) has joined the cast of S. Darko, the Chris Fisher-directed sequel to 2001's cult hit Donnie Darko. The story is set seven years after the original as Donnie Darko's sister, Samantha (played by again by Daveigh Chase), flees town with her best friend (Briana Evigan, Step Up to the Streets, Fear Itself) when they are plagued by bizarre visions. Berkley plays a speed freak-turned-Jesus freak obsessed with cleansing the world of sin and infatuated with her dreamy pastor. Ed Westwick (Gossip Girl) and Justin Chatwin (The Chumscrubber) also have roles. Shooting is underway. Berkley just finished a stint on CSI: Miami and wrapped filming on The Butlers in Love, which is directed by David Arquette. (Hollywood Reporter)"
