It's supposed to be set seven years later and the focus is on the sister. Sounds kind of interesting, but I have a wait and see attitude on this. I loved Donnie Darko, so I hope that this works out.

I love the original Donnie Darko. I do not like the director's cut. Reviews of Southland Tales have not been kind.
I worry about this idea.

I want to see Southland Tales, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Richard Kelly, writer-director of the original, will apparently not be involved, although Fisher said in a statement, "I am a great admirer of Richard Kelly's film and hope to create a similar world of blurred fantasy and reality."
....Great.

At first I thought this was going to be a Maggie Gyllenhall vehicle, but as it turns out it's going to be about the little Darko sister. I grow less interested with every fact that comes to light.

Bad idea. Not every good film needs or wants a sequel.

This doesn't need a sequel at all. Like a person doesn't need a virus or bacteria. They can live without it.

Just the name has marketing value because it was a cult hit. I'm sure they're selling it on that basis. Interesting that Kelly's not involved.

Agreed. Zero interest in this movie. In fact, I somehow have negative interest.

Richard Kelly posted: Richard Kelly's MySpace Blog
Over the last couple of days, a few people have asked me what's up with "this Donnie Darko sequel."
So to set the record straight, here's a few facts I'd like to share with you all - I haven't read this script. I have absolutely no involvement with this production, nor will I ever be involved.
I have no control over the rights from our original film, and neither I nor my producing partner Sean McKittrick stand to make any money from this film.

I wonder what his true thoughts are concerning this. I would be upset.

It's a recipe for disaster. I suppose he's upset, but what can he do? Nada.

Not being able to do anything about it is probably upsetting as well, but i'm sure he'll survive.
