while i devise a lame pun to title this thread, i might as well let you know that radiohead are touring at the moment and i thought while i'm between gigs i could establish this because criminally we have been lacking a thread to celebrate them???!!!

how's that?

they strike me as quite the international band, creep broke in israel of all places, so there should be people willing to discuss them?

i saw the gig in manchester last night and next week they'll play berlin with me in the audience grin

i'm not sure how it works but the sound was awesome. it's really crisp and doesn't set your ears ringing. when they played quieter songs, they still projected but they projected that quietness.

is seattle going to be open air?

I enjoy Radiohead, but I haven't seen them in concert or anything.

Yes, open air. The place is supposed to be a new state of the art amphitheatre with really hi-fi sound. Looks like you got a "Myxomatosis" at Manchester. I'm hoping for a couple Hail To The Thief gems.

they seem to be playing from all the albums except pablo honey, so i should think there'll be the odd gloaming and sit down.stand up thrown in. they change the set list around quite a lot every night, apparently.

I don't think I've heard any of their songs.

Honestly one of my favorite bands, but I don't usually go to concerts.

we could discuss Pablo Honey if that sits well with the other people.

the one standout song there was creep, and i can honestly say i have never bothered with many of the rest. my pablo honey education stems from alternate (live and acoustic) versions from the itch EP that came out in japan and i'm glad.

I like a bunch of the tunes: "Creep", "Thinking About You", "Stop Whispering", "Anyone Can Play Guitar", "Prove Yourself", "Ripcord." They also had a few better non-album tracks around that time that paint the band in a much different light: "Pop Is Dead", "Killer Cars", "Banana Co." and "Faithless the Wonder Boy". I'd forgotten so many of their more obscure songs I used to love. They had lots of good b-sides and EP tracks back in the '90s.

i was especially impressed with the recent DVD release of their videos when i saw pop is dead. it was positively the silliest and least suitable to the band imaginable. but really good clean embarrassing fun tongue

They looked so jerky back then. I remember seeing this MTV Beachhouse performance and thinking Tom's hair looked incredibly dumb and Ed looked... I don't know, he's going for like a pirate look there with the billowing white shirt. And they're being all rock posey. And as a guitar player, I always thought those '80s Rickenbackers with the black pickguards like the one Ed had there looked pretty cheesy. They were not the grimy kind of band I liked. But at least Jonny looked cool. And Phil had hair!

yeah they looked very new and pose-y for what it's worth.

pablo honey is a strange album because it could either capture the band at that moment or give us a completely wrong image of them. because either they completely overhauled their act after they went through the whole creep thing or their marketing people understood nothing.

i do think it's the latter. it was probably easier to market them as another grunge-y outfit.

Anyone Can Play Guitar is my favourite track from Pablo Honey. It is the reason I still occasionally listen to the album. PH is my least favourite Radiohead album, but that doesn't mean it is bad, just kind of mediocre for Radiohead.
