I really wasn't expecting it. Hancock, as I guessed right, had something to do with John Hancock.
I was expecting a comedy because most of the trailers made it to be, except for the final ones.
I guess I was just fooled.

This movie was a mess. The first half was moderately amusing. The second half just crumbled under randomness and inconsistency. And then it ended on a truly awful note.

I loved the film and though it was great. Very interesting and offbeat. It was like the anti-comic book movie but equally good in it's own way. Will Smith is good, as always, but I was really impressed with Jason Bateman's performance. Unlike others I actually liked the twist in the story and I was already leaning that way with some of the subtle clues in the film pointing in that direction. It gave the film a touch of mythology which I found refreshing after dealing with numerous science-experiments-gone-wrong-superheroes.

In 1977 George Lucas created the Star Wars Trilogy and changed the way we look at movies. In 1999 George Lucas created the Prequel Trilogy and changed the way we look at Star Wars. Frasier, Lost, and Whose Line Is It Anyway? are the best tv shows ever.

This movie tried to be too many things. There was never a tight focus on it & I think it never rises above mediocrity. Whether its comedy, action, or the superhero mythos, it never settles on firm ground. It tries to show how a superhero would have problems in the real world but then it abandons that premise for one liners or meaningless action scenes. I think the villain is a prime example of this. Because the first half focuses on Hancock there really was no need for him to have a nemesis, since he is his own worst enemy. However, to please the summer going movie public, a lame villain is brought in whose brilliant plan is to shoot Hancock, despite having no knowledge that he is losing his powers.
I also don't know how anyone can think this film isn't trying to be funny. The "call me an ..." bits, the prison scene, the youtube footage, etc. are all played for laughs. I'm curious about the deleted scenes because this film seems like too many opinions being considered. It isn't an all out comedy, it isn't a drama, it isn't anything that it aims for but it luckily has a good cast that seems to be having a lot of fun.

The mythology element actually reminded me much of The Sword comic series's backstory, but less sinister.

If that title had shown up at the end of the trailer, the audience would be rolling in the aisles.

I saw it tonight. I'd give it 5/10. Not that bad, but not that good either. Just ok.
To me, the first and second halves felt like different movies to me. The first half a comedy, and the second half a drama. I think if they had just stuck to one or the other, it would have been a better movie.

I agree. I loved how the superheroes were explained to be mythical beings, similiar to Hercules or Achilles. It was different, something I've never seen before, the same thing with Hancock's character. I give this movie the most points for its freshness, its comedy, and Smith's performance. It's not Smith's best (it's no I Am Legend), but I liked it.

I really enjoyed the movie. It had it's faults, but it was a fun one to watch, with some good story behind it.

"Hancock" is nowhere near the disaster that people are making it out to be. I actually found that Smith, Bateman, and Theron made it work pretty well. I saw "Wanted" the same day, and I was immensely more engaged and entertained by "Hancock". "Wanted" is a complete mess and waste of talent that should be getting much harsher word-of-mouth than "Hancock".

I watched Hancock yesterday, and I didn´t regret it. Really not that bad.
It was entertaining and for sure different, not your typical superhero.
A good movie that could have been great, you can sense that, and that makes it sadly more frustrating to watch than a truly horrible one.
The first half wasn´t a fluffy comedy, but I couldn´t stop grinning because I so enjoyed seeing a clumsy, cursing jerk of a superhero destoy LA and then struggle to be a nicer person.
I was completly surprised when she threw him and the fridge through the wall, and the background was really interessting, but horribly rushed. Especially the end was kinda I mean he´s going to New York and she continues to play happy familiy with his manager Guess we are supposed to conclude that they are better of being separated, but 15-20 more minutes explaining things a bit more would have really benefited the movie.
