After a long drought of new quality hour-longs dramas, HBO is back with True Blood. The series is created by Alan Ball of Six Feet Under fame and revolves around a Louisiana town where humans, aided by a synthetic blood beverage, live side-by-side with vampires. The show is based on Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampires Mysteries book series.

Here's the link to the main site on HBO:
http://www.hbo.com/events/trueblood/

Here's its wiki page (it actually has more hard information than the HBO site right now):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/True_Blood

The only names I recognize in the cast are Anna Paquin, and William Sanderson (I also read some months ago that Stephen Root was in it, but he's not listed anywhere now).

Needless to say, after all but one of my favorite hour-long dramas made it out of the mess HBO is trying to make for themselves, it's nice to see something with an interesting premise and an established pedigree nearing its premier date.

The show is set to premier in September, but since HBO is ramping up the hype already, I figured I'd go ahead and get the thread for it going.

There's one other bit of HBO drama news to tell, but doesn't warrant its own thread yet:

The new David Milch 70's era cop drama he's doing for HBO has a title. It's called Last of the Ninth. There's no word on when it might premier, however. You can Google "Last of the Ninth" for a rundown of the show's internet buzz.

The fact that they've rolled out the epic replay of Big Love's first two seasons suggests it will be sooner rather than later. Bank on a Big Love/True Blood Sunday doubleheader. I'm pretty sure the 3rd season of Dexter drops in the fall as well. I'll bet HBO is dying for Sunday night showdown in the hopes that it might reclaim some of the thunder Showtime has stolen in the past few years.

You're in for a treat. I think Dexter is better than anything currently on HBO. Big Love is great, but Dexter is amazing. I wonder if HBO passed before Showtime picked it up.

Yea, Im looking forward to watching it. Id start it this week but I want to wait until Im done with my summer class so I have no interruptions.

I also recently picked up the first book that the show is based on, pretty much on a whim. Hopefully its worth the risk.

Big Love's wiki pages claims season 3 starts on January 11. Take it with a grain of salt. The season 3 cast list was exactly the same as season 2.

Here's a bit of decent info on the show from Ign.com:

Here are two more older bits of news from Ign and proof that I wasn't dreaming that Stephen Root had a role in the show:

As much as I'll probably watch this ANYWAYS, here's the most important question:

HBO + Anna Paquin == jumblies?

Well, I'm not entirely sure what "jumblies" are, but Big Love is pretty jumbly-free despite the material. So I guess jumblies are not a given on HBO.

(Jumblies are boobs, right?)

(Can I say boobs on here?)

Yea, I saw a promo for a vampire dating website before last week's Generation Kill premiere.

True Blood is also getting some very good early buzz, which is a good sign. Once the guy from tvguide.com posts his review Ill be curious to see what he says in detail about it (although he did say that he really liked it).

There's also whats being called a 'special report' on vampires in America airing this week on HBO. Its only 15 mins. so Im guessing its a behind the scenes thing.
