I apologize if this topic may have been discussed here before.

Reading up on Shakespeare, I've come across various accusations that he did not, in fact, write many or all of the p lays accredited to him.

Do you beleive this? Why?

And no, I don't believe the plays were written an anonymous genius. Ain't no such beast.

It's an idle controversy, of no relevance to the plays themselves. They exist. Someone wrote them. The historical record does not necessarily improve with age, so opportunities for further evidence to prove authorship reliably are increasingly unlikely.

The grassy knoll brigade have written book after book saying it was really the Earl of Oxford, because a glove-maker's son can't be this brilliant. Which is stupid. You can make something look likely if you try. There are all sorts of books saying Anna Anderson was the Grand Duchess Anatasia, even after the DNA tests proved she wasn't. People want to believe. Why, I couldn't say.
