I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Bright Star get a nom; it's exactly the kind of movie the Oscars love. And The Hurt Locker too.

The Hurt Locker is a front runner. How exactly does it fit on this list?

I would love to see Hurt Locker, Star Trek, and District 9 on there, but that's just because I think they're all fantastic.

"Star Trek" and "Hurt Locker". These are both fantastic
"Anvil" will be the dark horse docu-nom, just so we can check them out at the awards show. Not unlike Mickey Rourke last year. Everyone loves to watch an accident.
Not having Pixars "UP" as a best picture nomination would be insulting to the very nature of quality itself. This one deserves a nod (and honestly the win)
"UP" and "Trek" were so much better than anything else I have seen so far(granted I haven't seen that entire list yet), I would love to see one of the 2 take it.
A win by either of these 2 would be a great service to fans like the ones on this site. Imagine a Star Wars PT with a good script, acting, and heart. It is possible and Trek showed us that. The same can be said for the crapfest of animated films out there, the bar needs to be raised for films in these genres. This could do it.

I really don't see where all this talk of Star Trek deserving a nomination comes from. I think Hurt Locker will definatly be nominated for Best Picture. I'd love to see the "Basterds" get a nomination but that's the Tarantino fanboy in me

It is one of the best reviewed films of the year, and the Academy might try to make up for their blunder last year of not giving The Dark Knight a nod.

I think Trek has a shot at a nomination because of TDK. I mean, it's not nearly as good as TDK but it's still an awesome and popular film. The expansion to 10 films is precisely for films like this. At least in theory.

The Academy will never admit that the 10 nominations is due to their failure to nominate TDK. If anything nominating Star Trek based on the fact that it is a well recieved genre film is an insult to TDK. TDK was excellent and a pop culture event not because it was a genre film but because it was so well made that we forgot it was a genre film.

I actually thought Star Trek was better made than The Dark Knight...

Well you're in a small minority there
Yeah, it really is a misunderstanding of TDK. I agree. But it doesn't mean it won't get ST a nomination anyway.

Who is your favorite criminal protagonist on TV?
Tony Soprano from "The Sopranos"
Dexter Morgan from"Dexter"
Vic Mackey from "The Shield"
Nancy Botwin from "Weeds"
Hannah Baxter from "Secret Diary of a Call Girl"
Jax Teller from "Sons of Anarchy"
Ray Drecker from "Hung"
Nathan Ford from "Leverage"
Walter White from "Breaking Bad"
Most of the major characters from "Oz"
Kate from "Lost"
Sawyer from "Lost"
Captain Malcolm 'Mal' Reynolds from "Firefly"
Neal Caffrey from "White Collar"
The criminal protoganist I would have chosen isn't on this list.
I don't like the idea of criminals being written as protagonists.

For Halloween: What's cooler -- a "fast" zombie or a "slow" zombie?
A fast zombie!
A slow zombie!
I like both kinds!
I don't have an opinion either way.

It depends on the media that the zombie is in and to what extent they are used. For instance in a video game shuffling zombies are about as fun and as challenging to beat as it is to breath or remember to chew before swallowing. It's just not exciting.
However in a film that focuses more on zombies rather than the survivors a slow shuffling zombie tends to bring a stronger horror element. I do happen to cut budget film makers some slack when it comes to zombies though, as shufflers are only scary when they are in their hundreds. If you can only afford one or two zombies then they need to run.
