Tie between Matt Groening and Seth MacFarlane. Between them they've written some of the funniest sitcoms in the past 30 years. That's no small achievment.

Chris Carter is a personal favorite. Dick Wolf and Matt Groening both changed television entirely and with legitimately great shows (though many of their imitators did not produce great shows). And in thirty years, it's going to be Tina Fey and Gervaise/Merchant that people are talking about when they talk about this decade in television.

This was a tough one. For me it was between Gervais and Merchant, Fey, and David Simon. I think they're all brilliant and have changed the face of comedy and drama respectively (not many people watched The Wire, but I can guarentee a lot of other writers did. It contributed a ton to long-form formats now more common in dramas). Fey is tempting because, yeah, it's extra impressive because she's a woman so of course as an aspiring TV/filmmaker, I respect her a ton.

I went with Gervais and Merchant, though. I think their influence is the most major. And The Office is the best comedy of the last 20 years.

Can't decide between Whedon, Abrams and Moffat (though to be fair I haven't seen what he has done with Who yet).

I'd have to say Groening, Whedon, Gervais/Merchant, Abrams, and Fey...but if I had to be one, it would be Groening. He broke new ground in the world of animation and changed everything, I think.

For me it has to be Russel T Davies. He bought back Doctor Who, a show that had been dead for nearly 20 years. He spruced it up a little bit to suit modern tastes and made it more successful than any of the original incarnations. That's quite an acheivement in itself. And last year with Midnight and this year with Torchwood: Children of Earth he has proven how well he can right for the license.

Also best not forget that Queer as Folk was considered to be one of the best dramas on TV.

Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin will co-host the 82nd Academy Awards; how do you think they'll measure up as hosts?

I think they'll be great -- as long as Martin lays off the banjo.
I think they'll be great -- as long as Baldwin leaves his cell phone at home.
Don't they skew a little.... old?
It'll be hard to top Hugh Jackman!
Well, I now fully expect cameo appearances by Meryl Streep and Tina Fey!
At least this means there will be no singing... I hope!
I am sadly disappointed by the choice.

Anyone who isn't the black hole of charisma herself, Grace Kelly. Personally I'd probably go with Kim Novak or Eva Marie Saint.

My mom, who's visiting, says that Ingrid Bergman (Notorious) is the best actress of the bunch, but Joan Fontaine (Rebecca) is her personal favorite Hitchcock film, so she's a close second. Meanwhile, in terms of sheer beauty Kim Novak (Vertigo) is had to beat, as is Grace Kelly (Rear Window).

Your mom is undoubtedly right re Bergman, but of her three Hitchcock films "Spellbound" is average, "Under Capricorn" is a misfire, and "Notorious" is brilliant. Of Kelly's three films, "Dial M for Murder" shows her as rather affected; "To Catch a Thief" is lightweight, but "Rear Window" is brilliant. Of Fontaine's two movies, she's good in "Rebecca" (though I don't much like the movie), and she's really good in the second one, "Suspicion", a movie which is brilliant but not much known. Theresa Wright is extremely good in her only Hitchcock movie "Shadow of a Doubt"--in which she plays, unusually for him, an ingenue. Hitchcock said it was his favorite movie.

Eva Marie Saint is good in "North by Northwest", but Kim Novak is really sublime in "Vertigo", probably Hitchcock's best movie. She wasn't much of an actress otherwise, but not this time.
And I actually quite like Doris Day in "The Man Who Knew Too Much". Margaret Leighton is also very good in "The Lady Vanishes".

If Grace Kelly bothered to act in any of her films then she could count for something, but she doesn't. She plays the same regal character in every movie regardless of the situation, and it's not her playing a part but her playing herself.

Bergman loses major points because Notorious is a train wreck and one of Hitch's worst films.

It really only can come down to Saint or Novak, and based on acting, looks and quality of film combined I'd have to go with Novak.
